Sorry for not replying about your questions on my RIA 1911.. got busy and couldn't check on anything for awhile.

It has a 3.5" barrel, and I'm almost positive it came with everything on it as is new... bought it used, as my first 1911, and I really don't know much about them.

Pay real close attention to the ejector. When I had mine, it hadnt been hardened enough and kept bending after a few hundred rounds. Went through two warranty services before I finally traded it in. Lol

1 mag through the 1911 at 25 yards.

Damn. I went to the range too. I'm not trying to start anything, I just know what it would look like if I posted my target, given our history. I literally just took a picture of my target and saw yours.

Nice grouping. I couldn't focus at the range. I brought along a friend who's new to shooting and had a lot of questions. Then a woman and her daughter came in and got the lane next to me.

I'm not against women and guns at all. I highly encourage it and have even given a reactive target to a couple of girls when I was at the outdoor spot...that way they remember it as a good experience and come back.

What I am against. Is when women with no experience, buy multiple guns and never get training or help.

I won't go into the whole story, but once I saw her almost shoot herself in the face...I needed to say something.

I agree completely. Actually, I think EVERYONE should get themselves educated and trained before purchasing any firearms.

And I know my grouping is a tad wider than it used to be. Im a bit out of practice due to my shoulder surgery. Only been to the range twice since November because of that.

Exactly. I've been around guns my whole life. When I was a kid I did rifle safety then handgun safety courses. My son is 7, and can handle guns better than that woman was.

She didn't even know how to load. No shit...more than once, she just slammed a mag in and dry fired it!

It's crazy how people don't realize the danger in being ignorant with a firearm. When I was around 7 or 8 my dad was helping me shoot his .22 and I dropped it barrel on my toe. I was being an idiot so my dad didn't let me shoot it anymore and got me in trouble. It's so easy to make a dumb mistake that harms you, others, or even the gun itself. It's sort of how I feel about people and vehicles. I think everyone should have at least a vague know how of the way their engine works, and also be warned and aware of the dangers in driving a hunk of metal weighing over a ton. Same goes with a firearm! If you learn to respect the machines you're using, your experience will be 100x better.

Made the mistake of purchasing handgun from Cheaper than Dirt, instead of a local FFL. Has been 17 days since my order, and it still hasn't been shipped. When I call they give me the run around. Really pissing me off. Never doing business with that place again.

How much cheaper was it?

Oh, I'm not knocking the M1A, I would love to have one but since I can get a military surplus one in very good condition for $995, I can't justify the extra money just to have a magazine and a muzzle break. Snipers used that rifle to reach out to 800 - 100 yards.

I've always tended to prefer the larger bores. I'll probably get an AR15 eventually, the modern ones work well once they got the bugs worked out of them.

As far as the Vietnam Guys, they weren't wrong but it wasn't all the firearm's fault. The Army didn't follow the manufacturer's specs on things like the powder and bullet weight. The Army chose to use an older, more fouling powered that gummed up the works and proceeded to tell the men that they never needed to clean their rifles. Armalite and Colt both said their rifles didn't need to be cleaned as much (because of the design and the recommended powder) but never said that the rifle never needed to be cleaned. The Army went as far as to not even issue cleaning kits to the men. The general stink about the whole thing was that the Army hated the M16 and its small round and did everything they could to make the rifle fail.

There were some other things the caused problems too. The barrels and parts of the bolt carrier group were supposed to be chrome lined and the Army nixed it. I can't remember what the other items were but if you Youtube it. you an find the videos on the history of both the AR10 and the M16. Some are quite long and very informative.

I have one with a 2.5" chamber and a 3" barrel and a bobbed hammer. I love it. I keep it for home defense and as a carry gun in the woods for snakes, and the like. #4 shot for the first round, 000 Buck for the second, .45 Long Colt for the third, then 000 and .45 Long Colt for the last two.

The factory grip does a nice job or managing the recoil. It doesn't kick much worse than my short .45ACP pistols do.

No but my PT145 carries 10+1 and with an extra mag, I figure I'm set. For my Kimber, I carry two extra magazines to give me a total of 21 rounds. Do I really need that many with a .45ACP? I would hope not but better to have too many than not enough.

It depends on the gun and how it feels to you. I've handled double stack that were quite comfortable and singles stacks that weren't. I passed up an XDS becais of that and got a Kimber Ultra Carry II instead. My Taurus PT145 is a double stack .45 and is very comfortable. It's all in the grip design.

Yeah, they actually said it didn't need to be cleaned in the field and didn't even issue cleaning kits right away.

But, the real issue was the no forward assist. Dirty gun has trouble going into battery...they were forced to slam their muzzles on trees/ground, to try to get it locked up.

From what I was told, they didn't do that long. Obviously that kind of problem would pop up quick in battle

Some people have never seen a REAL shootout. They just think all that would need to be done, is draw and fire 1 shot. Not real world

Only around $50 cheaper. Not enough to justify the long wait time, thats for damn sure. I did finally get the gun today, but I'm not down for the long wait time again. Over 100 FFL's in this area, I'll be supporting their business' from here on out.

Dang. Yeah, just find a good local LGS. I've bought all but 1 gun from a single place. They price match pretty damn close to online normally

When I just got my Recon, it ended up being cheaper than online after the rebate. After shipping or just FLL, I still came out $30 ahead
