The mount is like $80. I bought the whole combo for around $300, because the local gun shop owner pulled it off of an AR that he took in on trade. It would probably be about $500 for the whole setup if you bought it new.

Well, I was sitting here bored and was thinking of getting a cheap pistol that I can afford to feed and use to introduce my old lady to pistols.
So I fired the Ranger up and went and picked this baby up...
Stainless Taurus 809 Compact 9mm. Gotta clean the shipping goop off and put some CLP on. Until Friday when my FrogLube shows up. Then everything will get degreased and fully lubricated with the good stuff. :-)
Price tag said $369.99. Register said $319.99. I kept my mouth shut and paid

Everybody hates on taurus. Funny that I can outshoot the guys with the Colts and Kimbers using my lowly Taurus.

.45
And any of the Armscor 1911's. Rock Island Armory, High Standard, etc. They look good, and they have tight tolerances, but the smaller parts aren't hardened enough.

I had a Taurus PT 92 (m9 clone) sheer the mag release at the range once, mag release spring shot out loaded mag hit the deck and the action locked to the rear......promptly sold the gun 2 hours later. Any gun that even has a chance of being used in a defensive situation can't ever do that. I take excellent care of all of my stuff but when I phoned Taurus about the issue they said it was a common issue and its okay because it has a lifetime warranty. Taurus just left a bad taste in my mouth I think they're revolvers are okay, but they need some more work on pistols. I still have a judge....but it's pretty hard to screw up a wheel gun...lol my case may have been 1 in 1000 but I don't want that thousandth percentile to be when I'm looking down the irons in an emergency

.45 acp. I love my Springfield armory 1911. My 2 most valued gun's. Springfield is middle of the road with Kimber, and colt.
When you get into Ed Brown's, Dan Wilson, Les Baer. You will be looking at an amount of money people would buy a car for.
Lowest priced 1911 I would buy would be a Rock Island Armory. Great gun that can be had for lower cost, but can be customized as good as any other 1911. It's Manufactured by Armscor from the Philippines. My best friend has one and has about 3000 round under it now. Besides old iron sights it shoots just as good as my springers just doesn't have the refinement

Neither. .45 ACP! Getting a 1911 in 9mm would be like buying a vette and putting a 4 banger in it! lol Get it in .22 if youre getting it just for plinking.

Which is why EVERY defensive handgun should be thoroughly tested. No brand is without problems. Heck, even Glocks have an issue once in awhile, and they're considered to be some of the most reliable handguns out there.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Taurus is hit or miss. You either get a really good one, or a really bad one. The key is to break it down and look at the guts before you buy it. I've got a PT1911 that has countless rounds through it, with no issues whatsoever. Before I bought it, I tore it down and checked for any chatter marks, peening, etc. Heck, the barrel to slide fit on it is tighter than my Dad's Kimber.
