Here in the United Communist Counties of Maryland, I'm kind of screwed for handguns. I can get one, but I can't carry it. The UCCM only issues carry permits to doctors, diamond brokers, bank managers, and people who have been victim of two or more attempted murders. I'm hoping the federal lawsuit will kill that, but recent events are not helping.

Any Mossberg, or the Benelli Nova are pretty decent guns. For home defense, I'd get the shortest barrel length you can. More maneuverable. The downside to that is that it's not as good for skeet shooting or bird hunting.

Re: Your Gun Pics, Post Em Up!
Can't go wrong with a mossberg 500 or a remington 870. Both are kickass shotguns
----------
If you wanna shell out the extra cash get a Mossberg 590 or 590A1

I believe this is what all my friends that are cops have in their cars too. I haven't heard a complain yet and they've taken down many a dirt bag with them.

I second this. Cheap, reliable, versatile and deadly effective.

You can't beat a Remington 870, great price & plenty of accessories available.

Re: Your Gun Pics, Post Em Up!
I can probably get a great deal on one at the gun shows in VA too. I'd probably come home with twice as much stuff too though.

Re: Your Gun Pics, Post Em Up!
I agree with every one above about the 870. Pull the plug and its holds 4 in the magazine. You can even get a mag tube extension to fit 2 more rounds

I think there's a good chance that the sound of chambering a round will end any hostile action anyway. If not, they won't make the same mistake twice.

Absolutely. My CCW instructor is a State cop and he said the same thing during the home defense section of the class. He said if the sound of you racking a round into the chamber of a pump shotgun doesnt scare the intruder away he is one determined criminal. He followed that with "make them a dead one at that point"

There are home defense version of the 870 and 500 with pretty high capacities. You can even get them with pistol grips instead of a regular stock if you want and Maryland allows it. They were pretty cheap too, around $280 IIRC.

Re: Your Gun Pics, Post Em Up!
I saw that too, but I thought I read that the "home" version of the 870 didn't have accessory capabilities. I really want to be able to have a light and other gizmos attached to it.

They make lights that mount without needing a rail. Not sure what the ones with rails cost.
