Thoughts on it? I'm looking to get a compact handgun in the near future.

The single stack in 45 cal will dig into your hand pretty good especially if your not used to it but I haven't had any problems with xd. I prefer to shoot the 9 in XDS.

I'd buy it over a glock. Are you specifically looking for .45? Compact or sub compact?

Not quite sure what I want really, but I'm thinking compact. I need to go and get a feel for different guns. Need to find that perfect fit because I'm well aware of how subjective that is. I was asking about the xds because if it does feel right in my hand, I'm buying it.

Do you have a range you can try different guns? I've got a local place and you pay like $5-$8 for a day rental and you can shoot all guns they rent. Then you can buy a box or 2 of ammo and try out a few different guns.

You might buy the XDs and line the feel...then when you shoot it...

I've been there. Not with my Warthog though.

Dont get wrapped up in the 9mm vs .40 vs .45. None of them are manstoppers. Its all about shot placement. Glock, Ruger, S&W and others all make good compact carry guns. Ive always recommended going to a range and spending the money to find out which manufacturer, which caliber, which model works best for you. You can never miss fast enough to win.

Not a fan of .40 but the G23 is excellent.

You said you bought new, as if glock was the only one. If that fit your hand "perfect", you've never held a P30

Bigger is better, right??? But seriously, I agree that shot placement is king in any self defense situation. I just figured a small .45 would be different.

That's what I reading in reviews but I don't plan on any extended shooting extravaganzas.

Not any that I know of but my family and friends provide an armory to try out
The only Warthog I know of is from Halo.

And for littering this thread with text instead of pictures, here is my Traditions Dual Trigger Muzzleloader:

Small 45 is worse cause there isn't as much gun to hold or control. You may not shoot enough to really bruise up your hand but you want to feel comfortable shooting what you have. If it does bug you then you will think of that everytime when shooting it.

Bigger would be better if you are shooting fmj's. I carry a .45 and can tell you from personal experience its not a manstopper and penetration sucks. It is a great round but im switching to a 9 with +p+ ammo.

I think you guys have killed my compact .45 vibe. I'm going to have to check out the 9mm XDS.

Like I said, shoot them all. The .45 might be the best fit. If you ever have to use it in a self defense situation you will be under extreme stress. You'll have tunnel vision, hearing distortion, ect. You dont want to be fumbling with a gun that "kinda" fits. If money isnt an issue the .357sig and 10mm are fun but ammo is expensive.
