I'm debating between a CPO sig- preferably with rails so the navy or combat versions if I can find one, haven't made my mind up on caliber yet... Or a rifle.. Most likely AR platform.. Something 556 or 308.
Any suggestions?

You really can't go wrong with SIG. Loved my 229. The navy model is OK, but not worth the mark up for civilian use.
Check out SIG certified pre owned, cost you about half the price and full warranty. When I had got my 229 (awhile back) the retail was 1k+. I got my certified one for $550.
As for AR...tons of options. I would avoid the older gas systems though, outdated and not as reliable

Wow that was fast lol, thanks, I was planning on getting a CPO if I get a sig, I figure I'll keep an open mind with regards to model and caliber depending on what they have in stock when I'm shopping around. What caliber was yours?
I have been leaning towards getting the sig simply because I know more about them then ARs and I like to be educated before making a purchase, however I'm only 18 so my dad would have to technically purchase it and then "gift" it to me for me to legally own it

Mine was a Sig 229 .40cal with Tritium night sights. Mine was formally a deck jockeys gun from Homeland security
Personally I don't like 9mm except for plinking and emergency carry.(like can't physically hide my double stack 1911)
Obviously your young and can't carry concealed, so a 9mm might be good to learn with
----------
If you just want to get your feet wet in gun ownership, there are low budget quality guns. You can get a 10/22 and a Taurus handgun for fun
My backup is a Taurus and I know cops who carry the same. They have a lifetime warranty too. I got my Taurus PT 709c for $230 and you can find 10/22's for $250 anyday

I'm also 6 foot 150 lbs so concealing a double stack .45 could be slightly problematic lol. Personally just from shooting and confidence factor I like a .45 better, but I've heard a lot of good things about the p226 in .40, never shot a .40 so I've been thinking of giving that a try.
And yeah a 10/22 is next on my list, always wanted one to mod the hell out of hah.

Build a 10/22 then. I actually sold mine so I could build one later.
The .40 would be good choice. You can get a different barrel and shoot .357 SIG. :-D

Maybe my parents will give into my pestering and get me a 10/22 for a graduation present... That's never worked before though so highly unlikely lol.
I hope to get to a couple gun shows and dealers in the next couple weeks so I'll report back soon with pics and hopefully a CPO sig.

You can also get a decent Para 1911 for about $400 right now. It's $500ish and then there's a $100 rebate until the end of the month
