I have the etchings of R.I.A on the side of the frame plus FK which is Frank who was a supervisor during that time on the rock island arsenal

That means your gun is not a colt its a Rock island armory brand not a colt. It is a 1911 style of gun made by rock island armory. You have nothing special. But those are a nicely built gun for the price.
Colts only factory at the time during 1914 as you say was in Hartford, Connecticut

It is a colt, but it was ran through the RIA after it was in the war for repairs/reworking if that makes since

That's actually really cool! I just got my hands on a colt 1911 from my dad, it was his first duty weapon when on patrol.

I have a 700 in .243, it has that stupid drop down internal mag thing, you press a button and a door swings out of the bottom of the gun and the shells fall out. I'd love to have an actual detachable mag for it, with the way it is now, it only holds 4 rounds
