He has been here since he was 3 and been thru the whole school system and never once a red flag was raised???? I don't understand, dont you need ID/SS#,etc. to get through most of the public school system. He even made it to graduation what gives here? Am I missing something. I am sure he is a nice guy but I would like to hear the WHOLE story.

an illegal alien is and illegal alien regardless of the situation. it sucks for him that they are deporting him and i hope it works out and he can become a citizen here but something seems fishy to me though. why out of the millions of illegal immigrants that are in this country did they single him out? i would like to know the full story.

Agreed. He's lucky he got to stay as many years as he did.

I hate to say it, but I don't feel sorry for him. There's laws in this country, and he broke one of them, therefore he was fair game for the state. His parents are at fault for not ensuring that they received citizenship status. They probably thought America is the land of the opportunity just like everybody else. Yes it is, but not if you don't have the proper paperwork. All he can do now is hope that they don't deport him, or when he gets back to wherever that he flees somewhere else that will accept him and shelter him.

I'd watch my back if I were his family too.

Wait, so we paid for his ENTIRE education through graduation? Not only do I not really care about his deportation issue, this just shows that we need to crack down on id/ss checks for thinks that can cost the state/country/taxpayer tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

If he is in jail, he obviously did something he shouldn't have. If he's being deported then he quite obviously was in the country illegally. No sympathy here man. He should have not broke the law to begin with and also got his citizenship squared away.

To add to what MooDib said about the taxpayers paying for his entire education, this is why the government should put a little more effort into border security.

I have to agree with this, sounds like a good dude, but well he came here illegally, whether he could help it or not. Somewhere in the past 15 years his parents probably could have changed that and made themselves legal residents of the US. I hope it all works out, but it sounds like there is more to the story then there is posted on your link.

Of course they're going to leave out all the major details, that would make it less of a sob story for everyone to feel bad about..

We couldn't get lucky enough for that to happen.. Its nice to see our government stand up for itself and start kicking the worthless, non tax paying aliens the hell back to where they came from.

I'm with this guy, ultimately.. this is a wake up call.

Not only will you or your illegal friend NOT get any sympathy from me, i actually hope we send him home to whatever 3rd world, war torn, poverty stricken country he came from.

Its bullshit seeing this country get taken advantage of every day by people that try to scam the system. I'm not just talking about illegal immigration, the welfare and food stamp system is a fucking joke as well.. But thats an entirely different topic all together.

If your friend and his family had done the right thing initially and tried for citizenship this wouldnt be an issue.. Yet they didnt, and now his fate is riding on some shitty little petition to save his ass... Better hope the weather gets warmer soon so you can get a few more soccer games in with your friend before its go-time.

I don't think many/any(?) checked out the link about the petition. I'm a CDN so I don't have to think anyway about it..it would be wrong for me to (sign the petition). So he is in jail because he was involved in a minor fender bender and checking peoples ID's out the police realized he was an 'illegal alien'...off to jail for that...deportation pending. Now he went through school and got a drivers license over the past 15 years of his young life.(?!) As for his parents should have gone for citizenship years ago...I would imagine that doing so would reveal the fact they are there illegally/not done the right way..and quick deportation. And now..he is in jail facing such..but not the rest of his family? I'm not saying whatever about that..but that would be weird if that is so. As far as he goes...is it his fault his parents somehow snuck into the U.S.A. when he was a 3yr old baby? To him that spot in the U.S.A. is the only home he can remember. Unfortunately while maybe he has a chance of staying due to being a very good student etc. perhaps his family will all be deported. What would he want to do then?..possibly go with his family. Not sure how it is right now but Guatemala has at times been a sort of right wing military dictatorship...not a very good place..especially for someone raised in the far freer place he knows as home.

The way I see it, America is not the only place to run to. Also, the OP lives in Ohio. Real smart place for the parents to go. They should've gone to Miami or out west where there's more illegals for them to blend in with.
