hydrids
what do you guys think of them? and the future of a hybrid ranger and hydrid trucks in general...also, isn't the sierra nd silverado alvailable as hybrids...
i think they are good but the problem with the hybrids in canada is the cold cause you need an engine to heat the heating elelment (or at least an engine works better and batteries are not that good in the cold)...however, if its good for th eenvironment, it gets my approval

Ya Silverado is available in a hybrid along with the Tahoe I link it is
Hybrid is only good in city driving though so unless u do a lot of city driving your kinda throwing money away
I heard that those batteries are only good for 10 years and they cost around 6K - 9K to replace

true, i wouldn't buy one yet cause i drive too much highway were the hybrid effect is minimal but i think a hybrid ranger with the I4 2.3 would get great city and highway milage, ecspially for a truck

i like the concept of hybrids, but i think we are years behind where we should be in battery technology. electric motors have much better torque than the internal combustion engine, plus their smaller, and you could control each wheel individually, but the battery storage is just to behind the times, the future of trucks lies in electric motors, batteries just need to catch up. as well as solar panels.

solar is a great point but i think that father into the futue and we should focus on enhancing battrery storage first
isnt the 2010 prius available with solar panels on ht eroof as an option?????

ya thats what im saying, battery storage needs to be tripled before anything else. solar though should be used as a means of charging the batteries. that would be a truly pollution free system. if we still used coal fired powerplants to charge electric vehicles, it would just be putting more strain on that source of pollution. right now solar cells capture only like 2% of the sunlight energy hitting them. thats bad.

yeah, combining toyotas hybrid synergy drive with all of its efficient technologies inlcuding regenerative braking and addin in solar panels into a practical and affordable car (or Truck) would be great for consumers and the environment alike

I don't have a problem with hybrid technology, but I think in a few years once these vehicles start rotating out of the fleet where going to hear the greenies complain about all the batteries and their determent on the environment. I think we need expend the talents on hydrogen and other technologies.

true, hydrogen seems like a wonderful feul but im stillnot to educated about how it is used and the differences between a hydrogen engine and an internal combustion engine

My Wife traded her 08 Honda CR-V that got around 26mpg and was hittin the gas station 2-3 times a week @ $30+ per stop on a 2010 Honda Insight Hybrid, plenty of power, batteries have a factory 8yr warranty, we bought a 100k extended warranty, and she's averagin 45-46mpg, it has a small tank, like 10 gals, so it only costs $20 to fill it, plus she's only hittin the gas station once a week...and we are feelin the difference in our wallets!

when you put electricity through water it undergoes hydrolisis, the oxygen and hydrogen split apart. they are then serperated due to their different densities, and then the hydrogen is used as a fuel, its more potent than gasoline, and the oxygen is the exhaust. it may not be that word for word, but its the general idea. i know i got a few terms mixed up

so hydrogen does seem more advanced and quite a sophistivated technology, nice to see that you have an insight too cause now the prius has competition

I still would like to see jeep (if the gov keeps them around) produce that hybrid or elec wrangler whichever one it was. It was the coolest green machine. 4wd with an elec motor on each wheel, regenerative braking, TONS of torque, bad ass looks, and its a jeep!!!

nice, i think ford should think of doing something like that to compete with Jeep if those vehicles become practical and mass-produced...i love the fact of teh tourque provided by electric motors but ill always love gas engines the most
