Pedestrian 0 STL 1

On my way home from work this morning. I was turning off a main street through town. I Am in the turn lane to turn left onto the side street. I have a chance with no traffic coming to make my turn. While making the turn I have always kept looking at on coming traffice due to how fast people travel and the hill they come over.

I made the turn and just as my truck was getting straight I see 2 people standing there. I was doing possibly 5-6 mph and I hit the lady. She immediately grabs her arm and starts yelling.

As soon as I get the truck into park she jumps in to the ditch. I am kinda like WTF I didnt hit her that hard.

I get out and I go to check on her. At this time the guy she was walking with is yelling and cussing at me for not paying attention. I was just kinda like okay lets make sure she is alright.

I dialed 911 told them I needed a ambulance I had just hit someone crossing the street. All the while this guy is yelling at me. Then out of no where this chevy blazer comes hauling down the main road and pulls into a parking lot close by.

He comes out screaming "You hit my wife what the F**K are you doing. He gets down on the ground and is like bear hugging her and telling her she is gonna be fine.

I was really puzzled and confused then. The guy she was walking with then gets into the blazer and takes off. I got had my phone out and texted my self the license plate number.

The cops arrive all 4 of them along with 2 fire trucks and 2 ambulances. The 1 cop questioned me and I told him what had happened. He ask how fast I was going and was asking how I could have went 5-6 MPH and she end up in the ditch. He said something isn't right here.

I tell him about the one guy leaving and everything. He gets real interested then.

They question the 2nd guy in front of me about the first guy. He doesn't even know his name at first then says it is Robert but he doesn't know his last name. He said it was his boss. The cops are baffled that he works for the guy but doesn't know his whole name.

Finally 2 of the cops come talk to me and says looks like they are after some money. They noted that there was absolutely no damage to my truck. They said I was going super fast.

They finally found the 2nd guy up the street. And he actually backed my side of what took place.

The lady was ticketed for no using the cross walk and failure to obey signal device.

They tested the cross walk signals and they were working properly

They measured where she had been laying and where the coffee she had been holding splashed and it was 13.5" feet from the cross walk.

2nd guy was also arrested for outstanding warrants

There was some damage to the truck the hood is bent down a tad. I am not worried because neither looked to have 2 nickels to rub together. So I knew they probably didn't have insurance and I would never get it fixed.

Sorry for long post. Officer said I have nothing to worry about. He also advised me to be watchful that they may try to sue me or something.

So in conclusion when crossing a street use the cross walk. You never know when a ford ranger may take you out.

Ya the one cop that is gonna do the report said when he arrived. He kinda expected my truck to be damaged with where she was laying. He figured by the looks from where he came from I hit her hard.

He kinda hinted towardthey were trying to get money. He just shook his head and said people will do just about anything these days.

If she has any injuries. I would day she has a bruised wrist or arm.

Well judjing by them I will in a way still end up paying for everything. Not through insurance but taxes if ya know what I mean.

It sucks people have to do that crap. I hate scammers.

Regardless, the best drivers always look in the direction they are going. It was an honest mistake, but keep your eyes open, lol. I'd hate to see you hit another person and they really do come after you.

Not trying to be a dick, just saying. Pedestrians always have the right of way, even if they are in the wrong.

How can they have the right of way when they are not in the designated area. They do not obey the cross walk signal?

My light was green so their little cross walk light was red. All officers said I was clear of anything.

You would have to be at the intersection to understand. Why I was watching for traffic coming over the hill.

This here in Missouri means do not cross the street if you are n the designated area.

Over here, on a boulevard or a street in a commercial area, if you do not use the protected path while the priority light is on, you're jaywalking.

But a lot of people do it, so you seldom see cops giving out ticket for it.

that is untrue, thats only in this country. i was nearly run over in the bejing airport when i didnt yeild to traffic lol

Did the cops figure out that if you were going 5-6 mph that a human won't fly 13.5 ft into a ditch? That is scary you are lucky the police saw it like it happened.That is comical when you saw here jump into the ditch. Scammers lock them up!
