If car dealers make 5% profit on a sale, that is considered EXCELLENT. Then the people who go to financial planners to get their interest rates dropped still make the CC comps money....less but still profittable considering the "in the cellar" prime rates. The real chumps who ruin it for everyone are the ones who live beyond their means and file bankruptsy......that cuts into profits, but visa and mastercard have that all figured in. Then if these companies receive bailout money, these companies are riding high.
Im talking about they are more likely to lower the monthly payments and wave fees for the people that are late a lot and carry a balance a lot than the people who just pay their balance off in full everymonth.

I would never really recommend NOT getting one unless you don't think you have the self control to be careful and pay it off every month. Ones I have that I really like are limited ones... I have a gas one that has a $250 limit and can only be used at the gas station I use the most and I have a health one that can only be used on medical bills. That one has a no interest for 6 months payment plan on almost every new charge... love it.

x2. Credit cards can kill you if you aren't careful. There are a lot better ways to build credit. If you want something for gas just get a debit card. It is your call, but I would find another way to build up good credit.

Well too many denials look bad... I don't know what gas stations you have there but Chevron denied me and Shell approved me when I had little to no credit. 'Cause of the economy it's going to be even harder to get one. Another thing would be just to wait a bit and get in-house financing on something like tires. Your checking account counts towards your credit too as long as you keep it in good standing.

My checking account has been flawless since i was 16. In house financing isn't a bad idea. i did want line-x! Thank you Marie. I will try shell also since it's the ONLY place i get gas from

You will definately get a higher interest rate because of your lack of credit but if you pay the monthly bill in full that won't matter.
x2 on everything.

Not sure if you already touched on this, but I would get a CC through whoever you bank with. That way you can easily manage your finances and payments (EG: move money around to pay off your CC). Plus it's just easier IMHO to have it at the same place, one less thing to remember to check.

I'm super loyal so even though I preferred Shell before I'm almost exclusive to them since they were the only ones who would give me a card.

Your bank is probably going to be your best shot at getting a CC. They already know what your finances look like, and what your history for the last couple years has been.

Also, just paying your bills (utilities/rent/car payment) on time every month helps your credit–I would think that owning several vehicles should help here as well. Good luck!

If my dad taught me anything, it's make your payments every month and make sure you keep track of billing and payments. You never know when there could be a mixup and it will always fall back on you. If there is anything ever wrong with my dads CC accounts and it doesn't add up, he calls and files a complaint. He's never once had a late payment. Getting a cell phone is a great way to build credit. Just don't make late payments. I have a master card through my credit union and never really had any problems with it. I recently just got a loan through them to buy my ranger. best way to build credit. also have a best buy CC when i bought a new tv. 3 years same as cash. so i'm going to make about 8-9 payments, then pay it off. it looks bad on your credit if you pay it off right away. so just keep making payments. and never pay the min. always pay a little more if you can.
