Question any K&N user here...

just wondering if any of u use the notorious K&N auto products... if so how have your experiences been?

i was thinking of getting at least the "stock air filter replacement" filter which is less restrictive and also maybe the high performance air intake kit..
any thoughts....

I run just standard paper filters, do not want to have to mess with the oil and risking putting too much oil and getting the MAF all messed up. I believe someone makes an oil less high performance filter now, but there really is not all that much benefit from it.

I have the K7N cold air intake

Gas mileage is slightly better than stock and the truck runs cooler.

The temp gauge use to be straight in the middle and now is not even at the middle

Default K&N

i have a replacement K&N air filter and i not had any problems, i have not noticed any real performance gains or improved gas mileage but at 55 dollars it was worth it because at 13 dollars for a fram air filter that i changed at every 10,000 miles you only have to clean the K&N air filter about 50,000 miles depending on how and wear you drive. even though the cleaning kit is about 15 bucks it's worth it because you get the lifetime warrenty with it. If your looking for a little performance gain replace your spark plugs with some high end ones like Bosch-Platinum+2 or +4 plugs

That cleaning kit cost 15 but you can clean the filter at least 8 times with it so right there you save money

I combined the K&N with the tornado and I increased the MPG to 22 on the hwy and have much more passing and take off power.

+1. You can just run the stock filter, which works perfectly fine, for a grand total of $0.

If you remove the snorkel from the airbox it basically turns your stock box into a CAI

Maybe a tad bit different on a newer truck

Warning: No harm can come from this Mod. Some dealerships will try to fault any mod as a reason to deny warranty service, but this mod is not only hard to spot, but its completely reversible if you have second thoughts.

Tools Required:
-WD40
-Your hands

Start by following the instructions in your owners manual to remove the air filter. Picture one picks up from there:

It will take a good bit of tugging to break this loose the first time. Make sure it doesn't catch on any hoses or wires in the area.

It will take some wiggling around to get the bottom tabs to engage their holes. Again be sure not to catch any hoses or wires underneath the box as you push it back in!

my 08 doesnt have that snorkel piece in the filter box. i added a aFe cai, they have the oil-less filter, it works great on highway ( i get 23-24 mpg hwy with my 3.0 auto) but it hurts city driving because its not really cold air. the stock filter is about as cold air as you can get short of putting an a/c system to chill the air first (not recommended/doesn't exist)

You would see better results city if you had some sort of shield blocking out the engine heat from entering the filter

ya i know, its got that sheild that supposedly seals it when the hood is closed, i dont worry too much, other stuff will make up for that loss in city driving
