I had a K&N in a previous vehicle, and I never oiled it in the few years I had it either. Still worked fine.

Talking Non-RBV

I've got a non-oiled CAI on my 97 CRV, bumped the mpg from 20 to 25, and it does whistle, don't hear it inside or when windows are up, but hear it when runnin round town with windows down, & DEFINITELY hear it when I jump on it to pass somebody!

its really easy, mine (aFe) just replaced the top cover of the intake, it uses the snap clips and a peice of metal to hold it in place, and it has a rubber seal up against the hood to prevent heat from coming in... having said that, it doesnt block out too much heat
edit: mines a conical filter, the K&N replacement filters just go in the stock location i think, not too sure though

STL posted somewhere recently with pics how to do it. Once you get the air box out there are 2 different parts that need to be pulled off.
