Re: S10 Xtremes
1st- i personally like the extreme's. they are pretty nice. i like the stance they have but the only thing they are missing is a 350. lol. the 4.3 vortech's are just pigs IMO. ya you can make them quick seeings how its basically a 350 with 2 cylinders cut off, but still, its a v6. lol.

Re: S10 Xtremes
I think they look pretty good with a drop, but if you want a NICE S-10 go and find a 94-96 S-10 SS. My buddy has one and it moves pretty good. He sucks at driving and it pulled a 15.5 in the 1/4. He bought it used and we did find something stating that it may have been boared over, but we were young and dumb so not sure on that one.

my business partner has a '99 black x-treme... it's OK, too much body kit stuff on it for my taste, he has 127,XXX on it and has to replace the engine at 80,XXX.... it's not fun to detail! lol

Re: S10 Xtremes
im older than most of you guys in here and im prolly fatter.. Im about 6 ft and 280 lbs. I bought a s 10 about six months ago. It was an extended cab short wheel base. It was the most uncomfortable thing ever. I even changed out the seats with another set and they still were bad on my back. I didnt like the way it handled and i sure hated the motor in it. In addition the passenger airbag switch was located in a spot that made it difficult to remove without breaking it so i had to replace that. The thing was made like garbage and rode worse. Air leaked in it and no matter what i had to do to it it was a hassle. You had to take half the dash apart to put in a good radio, you had to drill out rivets to change the tailgate straps.. things like that...I got so disgusted that i sold it and bought another ranger. IMHO its a far better truck , is easier to fix if and when it does break, is designed a whole lot better and is easier to repair.
I do own an older chevy full size truck and do appreciate any good piece of machinery but IMHO chevy stopped building trucks worth buying after the early 90s.. Ford makes the best thing on the road and dodge well they shoulda stopped trying after they first went bankrupt

well that was true until the new gen Silverado came out a few years ago. I like them alot and would MUCH rather have one of those than a new uuuuuuuuuuugly-ass F150.

Re: S10 Xtremes
whatever happened to "Go before Show", that S-10 extreme is like seeing a civic with all sorts of body mods and lambo doors and crap like that, then gets took at a stop light by an old beat Geo Metro. I will give it that I do like the way they look, but the performance has been left wanting a lot more. And like all newer Chevy's it will start falling apart from the inside out.

Re: S10 Xtremes
I dont know what you guys are talking about....back when my truck was bone stock, my 4.0 would get walked by my buddy's stock 96 Sonoma 4.3 Vortec every single time. EVERY time. And he even had an auto and me a manual. When riding in his truck it was clear that his motor had guts and mine was gutless compared to it.
On the flipside, that thing rotted away from the inside out...while mine still looks new inside and out.
But any vehicle will go to shit if you neglect maintenance and cleaning. Like he did. My landlords 3rd gen Ranger is falling apart too.

but youre talking about your OHV 4.0, thats alot closer in power to the 4.3. i dirt dragged (on a track) my 01 against my buddys 01 Sonoma with the 4.3 and i walked him every time. the 4.3 is a great motor but stock for stock the SOHC 4.0 will beat it.
as far as the extremes go, they were cool in there day. a freind of mine had a really nice one that was lowered, shaved the steps off the bed and eventually dropped a 5.3 in it. now days they kind of look outdated but all the S-10's do now days.

Re: S10 Xtremes
yeah Ive always been kinda let down by the 4.OHV, even back before it was 'obsolete'. 160hp while the 4.3 Vortecs of the same era had 180hp or 195 in the ZR2. And they were also OHV motors but they like to rev higher than my motor AND they had at least 20 lbs/ft more torque than the 4.OHV.
