Default joining USAF!

going in this wed. to take my asvab and hopefully it'll be the start to the rest of my life. ive always wanted to join the armed forces, and i have a passion for flying so the air force is what i want to do. i just have one worry, 2 years ago i got a posession of marijuana charge and i did the probation and a couple classes that were mandatory. i was told that b/c i did the probation, it would come off my record. is this true? is it going to hurt my chances of getting in? and any words of advice are appreciated!

props to you for your decision to serve this great country, ill just warn you now that they treat you like shit at the lansing MEPS so just take it in stride and do your best through out the process if you decide to go farther than just the ASVAB. it can be a little intimidating at times but its a good way to give you an idea of how you will be treated as a new recruit in the military. as far as the marijuana charge, they might overlook that, just depends on there mood at MEPS but a recruiter will be able to tell you more about that. at any rate, good luck and ace that ASVAB!!

i would just tell him up front that way if it will be a problem they dont haul you all the way to lansing to find out there. they will run a background check so it will come out eventually.

Honesty is key. They are the government they will find out. So best just to be straight with them.

It'll come out eventually, so just be straight up with it, expunged or sealed records don't matter. The main thing is that you're volunteering, and you've paid your debt via probation and the classes. Go and serve, it'll be fine.

Good luck and like they said, remember that it's just a game.

From what I hear, BMT has changed a lot since us "old farts" went through.

If you have a passion for flying I'll assume you want to fly yourself not just be a part of the Air Force because some of them fly. If you want to fly you have to be an officer. You won't be an officer unless you have a college degree. There are programs to go from enlisted (which is the path you're on) to officer, so go enlisted if you want. Just know that as an Airman, or TSgt, SSgt...you won't fly. You may ride along depending on the job (MOS) you choose, but if you want to be in the pilot's seat get a degree. Think about the Air Force Academy too. I did 10 yrs in the Army, so I'm all for people who want to join up. Good luck in your career.

ASVAB score WILL stay with you. Do the best you can and take you time. Your score will determine a lot that may or may not be available to you after you join. It's more than just an aptitude test. You want a 110 or higher.
