okay so I have two problems:

The camaro has not ran in 9 years, what can I do to get it started? it has a v6, smallest engine they made for that year camaro, and it has EFI, also has half a tank of gas that I cannot siphon due to the anti-siphoning neck. it is also an automatic.

next problem, so I live in Virginia right now but attend college at University of South Carolina (Go ****s!) and after school lets out I will be driving home for a day or two to drop off my dorm room furniture and I will be driving my truck back to SC to stay with my girlfriend for a couple weeks and her dad and I want to work on the Camaro and work on it. what is the cheapest way to get it down here safely, I probably will go through U-Haul. I dont know whether I should just go with the flat bed to tow it to SC from VA or get the one that just immobilizes the front two tires while leaving the rear axle on the road. I am scared of things going wrong in the rear differential in the Camaro.

I will be towing it with my ford ranger, but using a U-Haul flat bed or a tow dolly. I would want to go the safest route about towing it but i'm also trying to save money

I don't think your truck is rated to tow a flat trailer with the Camaro on it

I just went on U-Haul's website nd I entered my vehicle information and what I would be towing and what my tow hitch is rated for and it says that it isn't recommended therefore not allowing me to proceed further with getting a uhaul trailer

I have an 86 Camaro I'm going to fix up one day, but I've never pulled it with my ranger.

I have pulled a 4cylinder soft top TJ with my ranger, and it should weigh about the same as a thirdgen. I'll tell you right now that I wouldn't pull that much weight from VA to SC on a trailer with a ranger unless I absolutely had to. Even I f you got a light weight trailer, and from what I understand, uhaul trailers are pretty heavy, you would be close to what Ford says the max is for the most capable ranger.

You may have good luck with a dolly. I pulled a 2200 lb car about 40 miles with a uhaul dolly and it was a pleasant experience.

If I remember correctly, there was nothing I could do to convince the uhaul desk jockey that my ranger was rated to pull more than 3500lbs and that his system is wrong, They may not rent you anything at all if you say you are pulling a thirdgen.

so, i guess I have to resort to finding someone that will be kind enough to lend me their tow dolly for a couple weeks while im in SC

Make sure it's getting fuel and spark, and that the engine is in time.

okay that I can do, there is a lot of controversy out there on whether or not i should change the oil, once i get it started and running I will change the oil but I've read that you shouldnt and you should use the oil thats already in there, inputs greatly appreciated

U haul trailers are pretty heavy, towing them behind my diesel is a project, couldn't imagine trying it with a ranger. Drain the tank by either the base of the filler neck or dropping it completely, and make sure you have spark

Dropping the tank in one of these cars is one of the worst jobs I've ever done. I've done it three times and it doesn't get any better. I would only do it as a last resort. The filler neck is soldiered to the tank. I would remove the fuel filter and hot wire the pump and have the pump remove the old gas.

The fuel filter is on the underside of the car below the drivers seat, and the harness to the pump/ sending unit should be on the unibody immediately in front of the center of the tank.


Mine sat for many years as well. When you dig into it, check under the distributor cap for corrosion. That's what kept mine from starting.

Okay, update on the 1983 Camaro!

So I went over there on Tuesday and put a new battery in it, put new gas in with the old gas, sprayed the throttle springs with WD-40 because they were locked up tight, now they are nice and loose. i sprayed starting fluid in the throttle body and she fired up! My next step is to figure out how to get it to idle, it ran as long as I sprayed the starting fluid in it, as soon as I stopped spraying it died. I know the next step is most likely drop the fuel tank and clean it out and then a new fuel filter, do you guys have any reccomendations on what I should do? it sounds like to me all I need to do is get fuel running to the engine.
