Default Went and did it...

I'm now Ranger free.. I sold my 88 to Colin as he needs a truck for a bit and I have a DD and the F100 I'm fixing. Met up with a kid a couple days ago to look at a truck he had and well.. Today I brought the POS that has potential home... I'm still Ranger free lol

It's a 1986 F150 Regular Cab Long Bed 4x4, has the little old 300 I6, New Process 435 transmission, New Process 208 transfer case, 3.08:1 gear ratio. It's BEAT.

Kid took the Intake Manifold, Exhaust Manifold and Carburetor off of it to regasket them, lost a bolt and never reinstalled them, then said in the listing it'd need those replaced.. It however does not, just needs put back together. I'll probably throw a kit in the 1bbl carb before I put it on. Also gotta take the radiator out and take it to the car wash and pressure wash 40lbs of Mud out of it.. lol

Only traded one AR I was into $450 for it. I figure truck is worth $500-$600 as it sits. Running on Craigslist around here it'd be $1000.

I'll get some pics posted tomorrow of it.

I'm REALLY wanting to ZF-5 swap this turd. lol

I've had a couple set up like this. My first urghhh moment on it... I went in for some OT at work last night, left early and came home, decided I'd get the carb out of the floorboard and pop the top off of it and have me a looksee inside. Looks like the carburetor off of a boat that was underwater for awhile....

Then I discover that 1986 is supposed to be Computer Controlled/Feedback carburetor.. It has the TFI-IV module on the dist, but the carb is a standard YFA.. so I get to see if it'll run right after I rebuild it. If not I guess I get to buy a reman Feedback carb unless I happen upon one at LKQ or something..

----------

Wheels and tires on the back are 17" Dodge Truck.... wheels and tires on the front? 15" Ford Truck..

----------

But it has potential. I picked up new plugs and a carb kit today. Forgot to get the Chemdip while I was at Walmart today.. I'll start rebuilding it tomorrow.

Yup, but I have seen them with a LOT more rot than this. This is manageable with patch panels and replacement fenders.

Here is the Carter YFA I get to clean today....

Gonna try the Pine Sol method. Never done it before and over on ADV Rider it's a pretty big thing, appears it has great results!

I went with Mean Green instead of Pine Sol, $3.00 cheaper and it's also safe for Aluminum. This carb was NASTY!

Last pic in the reply is the P/N for the kit for this carburetor. Also is the same for the YFA Feedback.

I would like to recommend to you berrymans chem dip if mean green wont clean that carb. I had an old farmall carb i soaked in that stuff for 2 days and it came out sparkly clean

Berrymans Chem Dip is on the list if this doesn't work. So far it's turned from Green to Black, haven't pulled the parts out of the soak yet.

I love 300's. I'd take one over a 302 for a work truck any day.

Damn. You must enjoy wrenching. No way I'd take on a project like that.

I think this is the 3rd we've owned with 300 and 4wd.

More torque than a 302 and better fuel economy is a win win!

You have to love wrenching to take on any project that's an older vehicle.

Yup, confuses the hell out of one too, someone tries to steal it and they'll have a fun time!

Also took the carb out of the Mean Green about 40 minutes ago, actually cleaned up fairly nice. Sprayed all the ports out with carb cleaner. Pics in a bit!
