Pushrods are in, passenger header is on, so exhaust is done for now lol. I have a line on a factory 4bbl 289 intake and a vintage Carter AFB carburetor, those who know their carburetors know that the AFB is essentially an Edelbrock Performer carburetor(1405/1406, etc.) just made before Edelbrock started having Weber-Magnarelli manufacture the Performer for them. It uses the same rebuild kit. They are for sale by separate sellers locally and price for both total is $175, hoping to get that number down a bit.

I bought the 289 K-Code intake a couple nights back. $60 is what it cost me. I'm now fixing to get a NIB Edelbrock Carb with air cleaner for $150 if I can get the damn seller to answer me properly...

Okay, meeting with the seller of the Edelbrock tomorrow. Story:

Dude is semi-retired trying to fully retire, he owned a couple shops back in the day and is now trying to condense it all down into a 15x30 building and selling shit off he doesn't need. Some time ago a guy came in and put a down on an engine build, new Edelbrock Carb, and a built transmission. Guy never returned for the items and rest of the payment so the dude I'm getting the carb from had to put a mechanics lien on it all to be able to get possession of everything. The carb was ordered from Summit Racing, Summit installed it on a 302, calibrated it for performance and tuned/jetted it for a 302, did a couple dyno runs to ensure everything was up to par and boxed it up and shipped it out. The work that was done plus the carb cost was over $400. I'm getting it and a new in box air cleaner for $150.

Alright so yesterday after I bought the carb and air cleaner, I did a little work on the intake I picked up, this is it before the mods:

It's a 64 dated K-Code 289 intake. I pulled the plug out of the rear of the intake, plugged the hole as it serves no purpose for my use, also pulled the studs out of the intake and ran a 5/16 course thread tap through the holes as the studs were rusted in the intake a little. You can see the cleaned up threads in the pic along with the plugged hole which I think might've been for an oil bath air cleaner.

Here's the carb and air cleaner, it's a 1403 Electric Choke with a new air cleaner, replaced the paper element filter with my re-washable one.

Friday I bolted my timing cover on and sealed it, along with my water pump, I pulled the valve covers and intake off and the plugs out and set the valve lash on the engine. So that's now done, valve covers are on, waiting to get a carb spacer Thursday as I need that, and am also gonna need Edelbrock P/N 1483 for my kickdown/passing gear rod on the C6 I'm gonna swap in. I still need to take the radiator by the car wash and clean it out and finish hooking up the rest of the accessories.

A week back IIRC I replaced the Ignition Key Cylinder in the column as I think that might've been the issue for the kid putting in the starter button. The damned button hung up on me and kept the truck cranking with the key off. I need to un hook the wire he ran and see if I fixed it or not.

Just about finished with the engine, got the intake gasketed and bolted down, bought the spacer I needed, also bought a part for the carb I needed and a new water outlet and thermostat. All in all I feel it was a productive day.

On the carb, if you plan on running an Edelbrock on your engine, and have a C6 or another transmission that uses a rod for kickdown/passing gear then you'll need Edelbrock P/N 1483, a throttle adapter. If you have an AOD, DO NOT use this piece! You'll need a cable kit from Lokar to adapt it to the Edelbrock! The ratio for the AOD is a 1:1 with the throttle, improper carb setup will lead to what I'm dealing with... A transmission on it's last leg... that's why I'm swapping in a C6, honestly don't need the OD and don't wanna deal with the hassle of the cost to rebuild the AOD.. You'll also need a ball stud for the carb to use your throttle cable.

Edelbrock parts and how they look/mount to the carb:

The spacer and carb:
