Re: For us Great Lakes people
I was 24 when he went down. I came home from work that night, and my wife told me a laker went down. I immediately asked, which one! She didn't know. My God woman, how can you not know!!!! I made some phone calls, and found out who it was. I didn't know anyone on that boat, luckily.
It had to be terrorizing.
Old Gordon did a good job basically memorializing the Fitz. Every year at this time I think of those guys.

I didn't know he did that. The sinking affected many people here, whether you knew the families or not.
Yes, I've been a fan of his since I can't remember when. I used to drive through his hometown, Orillia, Ontario, a few times a week on my way to Huntsville.

Re: For us Great Lakes people
You guys are very welcome, very happy to have comments on this.
I never thought about guys not being connected to the lakes, would even think of replying.
Again thanks, I think that song from Gordon is a great tribute to the guys we lost.
Maybe some guys know about the Arthur Anderson, he was the last boat that had contact with the Fitgerald and Captain McSorley. I still see him off and on, either in the Straits of Mackinac, or at the Soo Locks. Reminds me of that day everytime I see him.

Know what you're saying, he or she is interchangeable. Sometimes, it's she, sometimes it's he. I know in the Navy, they got pissed at me for referring to it as a "boat". I guess it's just how/where/when you grew up. I don't know, my friends on the boats called them he/him, as well as, she/her at times.
