Re: FRF Watercooler / BS Thread 2016 (V2.0)
I found that when you graduate and get a job in the real world, that your employer will have their own software and methods (think, standards) that they will expect you to learn and use and in fact, will most likely send you company training in house to accomplish this. And when they don't (because one is espected to apply what they learn), they'll expect you, when you're seasoned and experienced, to be able to make decisions and get the job done without running numbers on every little thing (paralysis by analysis). Especially true when there are deadlines and large penalties for missing them.

Well not having any of those issues, the whole point is to analyze at different temps and pressures. Excel could have done this but I have my own software that I prefer to use for initial calculations, then input into Excel and I'm done. All of the m math programs are pretty widely used in the industry, along with Aspen software and of course Excel

Mathcad isn't as powerful as Matlab, but for basic mathy type stuff it's syntax is much easier to use

ChemE student, not sure if I'll go work in the industry or pursue a PhD after my undergrad. This beats the hell out of construction

Sometime a guy can get creative and crafty, and find a way to slightly modify what they are doing to get around these "things" that are carved in stone, thus making them not apply and proceeding to do a quality job with less cost. I've found that managers really like to reward problem solvers and conversely, have noticed that they give hints to those that are, slow learners.

Bathtub full of hydrofluoric acid with a body in it and it crashes through the floor. Next time, use a plastic tub, not porcelain and metal.
