I've gotten a DUI, and I go to AA to keep my drinking urge at bay. I've been through the whole legal process and closed the case. I was joking

Agreed. The court isn't interested in curing people's alcohol addiction, because 40% of first offenders become a second offender. The court makes bank off of that.

Oh, yes and no on that, but it would depend on the laws of the state and the judge. Here, IMO, the blow-and-go is golden in the eyes of DMV and the courts. They like it because a) they know the driver hasn't been drinking b) it trains the driver not to drink before driving and c) failed blows are reported to a PO, which could result inj sanctions. The length of time the blow and go is in the car depends on a persons history and law. FWIW, I went to HS with a guy who clearly has an alcohol problem, he's a maintenance drinker. Buys JD in the large economy size, half gallons, two at a time. So it should come as no surprise that he doesn't drive anymore because.....the state says he must have a blow and go in his car for.....10 years.

Congratulations on doing what you had to do in order to raise the bar. I've taken and sat through AA meetings with a few people over the years that couldn't bring themselves to go alone. I'm rather pleased to have done this; too bad I didn't get to one friend soon enough and he ended up dying from hypothermia in someones front yard about a QM from his house. Everything to live for, all gone.

Edit: Deferred prosecution is an option in these parts. The idea is to help people overcome things and move forward without booze, etc. The courts like this and of course, so do the booze parlors (providers). Its $$$ to them but for some of the attendees, needed.

One thing I have always hated is when teens/young adults tell their peers that they are "Not a man" unless they drink alcohol. No, being a "Man" is not giving in to peer pressure.

I thought the cop just made you pour your booze out and get a ride home? That's not a DUI, that's you being a lucky fuck, if that's the true story. Kind of remember a little bragging not to long ago.
If you really were an alcoholic, and now you aren't, congratulations. Some people shouldn't drink, and if you can't do it responsibly you shouldn't.

That's what they used to do 35 years ago except instead of pouring it on the ground (this = alcohol abuse) some cops would take it from us and presumably, drink it themselves. Cops also like free beer (and weed)!

Here we just put a guy away that had 12 DUI's on record. He is like the first conviction with the felony DUI law, now he will be locked up for like 6 years.

How in the hell can someone make it that far in life......

Not sure of felony DUI here, I know it exists. I do know that three DeeWee convictions in five years = loss of firearm rights. Never turn down the opportunity to add a gun grab to existing laws even though it may make sense, depending on the nature of the person and how they got their DeeWees.

Good point.

And no lol. Luck runs out.

----------

In CA you get a felony DUI if there's bodily injury or death, and/or your third offense. I've heard of people getting away with it the 4th time but the next judge that sees them walk in says "oh no, you're getting put away"

I don't remember how many were here but they end the story with 'numerous in other locales'...

Punishment crosses state lines here. GF of a friend of mine rolled her car last fall in Idaho and got a DUI. Idaho law is more lax then here but when WA caught wind of it, they want her, as a condition of getting her WA license back (yes WA took it, even though DUI was in Idaho) to have a blow and go in her car for one year. She did blow a ...................... .24; WA has a line at .15 which pushed it from 90 days to 1 year ("excessive" as they call it).

Smartest thing she or anyone could ever do to get out of the cash grab game, right after not driving shit faced in the first place, would be to run like hell from the accident. Don't go home, go hide for a day in a place where the cops won't find you. There were no other involved parties, so the worst that would happen would be a ticket for leaving the scene of a non-injury accident. One way or the other, live and learn.

My lawyer told me he could have gotten me off easy if I had just chucked my keys out the window as hard as I could, then when the officer walks up to the window start chugging.

Sounds fucking insane, but no keys, no DUI. And since the officer sees you drinking after you have no keys, breathalyzer is invalid. Could have gotten off with drunk in public or some stupid shit.
