Agreed, my wife is the kind of person that wants to fill up if it hits a quarter of a tank.

I never fill mine all the way up usually I don't fill it up past half. Too much weight I want to be fast.
I will let it get down to an eighth of a tank before I add anymore.

I've never had to replace a fuel pump but I never keep my cars very long

Ranger had 4 gallons fuel left when the "Check Gauge" light came on.
Explorer has 3 gallons fuel left when "Low Fuel" light comes on.

Not that my wife seems to care.
my family's had two different 2003 chevy 1500s that had a fuel pump go out shortly after accidentally running the tanks dry lol

i'm not sure if i've ever run out of fuel in a car/truck before. i'm the shits about dirtbikes and farm stuff tho lol

That's true.
The rear tank on my f350 1/8 on the gauge is dry.
Front tank empty on the gauge I can run awhile.

It probably doesn't apply to newer vehicles as much, seems like empty on anything newer has a few gallons left. On my older gm's when I was a broke kid I always ran then low and always had pumps go out, but there is a lot of variables going on. I usually don't run lower than 1/8th - 1/4, can't hurt.

Seems like whenever someone has a fuel pump go bad, and I ask them if they run around low on gas or let it go wayyyyy down to fumes before FILLING the tank, the answer is almost always a yes. Like the GM I had one owned, fuel pump runs a lot and was pretty noisy when it's scraping and squeezing the paydirt for gas. Not like that when there's actually meaningful fuel in the tank. And......I learned my lesson, and for reinforcement it was a shitty, cold, windy and rainy day.

Step 6 in installing air bags on a 2017 ram. Go to urgent care and get your finger stitched back on.

No, a bolt had a thread start coming off and wrap around my finger as I was running it in. It tightened down around my finger and sliced it wide open.
