I am not denying I was speeding. I am questioning the speed he had me at. I know I was not going that fast.

I looked at my truck speedometer and it never reached what he said he had me at. The GPS is spot on with my trucks speedometer so that is the only proof I have to show them.

Fighting speeding tix can be fairly easy. It's hard for police to show proof that anyone was speeding. Their word is all they have. That being said, in the event that you were caught on the radar gun, that radar gun is used only to confoirm the officer's suspicion that you were in fact speeding or going a little too fast for the posted speed. So, what I'm trying to say is, The cop sees a vehicle, estimates the speed of the vehicle, then uses the radar/lidar to confirm his estimate. Then a traffic stop may insue. IF...big IF...you could show that there was no way that the officer had "eyes on" long enough to estimate your speed and confirm it vs. just driving past you around a curve and just happened to hear the radar chirp and he looked at it and saw your speed, then you may be able to beat it in court. Remember that you have bigger tires, so if the judge asks, be ready to show that you've had the speedo adjusted for the bigger tires. As for the GPS, it may be accurate to your vehicle cause its a mile or too slow and and so is your speedo cause of the bigger tires (or vise-versa). Good luck

Did he get you with radar or laser?

Perhaps the best approach here would be to take you photos and go to court. Don't pretend you were going the speed limit like grandma (since the judge knows damn well nobody does that anyway). Show them the GPS evidence. Tell them you're not calling the officer a liar but you think it was someone else. I dunno.

Ticket shows moving radar with FA53 written beside it

There is one other part of the how situation. I dont know how to really explain it. I guess it would be good to use in court.

The 2 turquoise lines are stop lights the yellow box is where he pulled me over. The yellow line is where I floored it and went over the speed limit.

After I floored it for maybe 10 seconds I let of the gas and coasted back down to the 5 over the speed limit. I maintained that speed till the 2nd stop light. I had to sit at the light for roughly 10-15 seconds. As I started going I noticed red and blue lights in my rear view mirror. He was still roughly 300 yards behind me. I went through the intersection and then he was right on me as I crossed over. I then pulled over. From where I let off the gas to the stop light is about just over 1 mile. So I really dont know why it took him so long to catch up with me. If I can even argue that point in court.

I'm gonna have to say that as far as traffic stops like that, its a misdemeandor offense which happened in the presence of an officer he could wait 5-10 minutes to pull you over to wait and see what else you're gonna do...(stack charges). But, I'd say that he may have had to finish his McGriddle and wash it down with his vanilla milkshake before he pulled you over. And when he saw that you had gotten stopped at the light, he slowed his brain down a bit and waited til the light turned green to pull you over on the other side of the intersection. Bottom line, in court the time in which the offense occured and the traffic stop was initiated prolly won't amount to a hill of beans. As far as saying that he had to speed to catch up to you is kinda void too, being that cops are usually trained in driving techniques and high-speed maneuvers so that they pose the least amount of threat to others on the roads during such hig-speed driving, that that fact may be thrown out altogether.
I'm really trying to help you here. I'd say the best thing to do is find out what radar gun or dash mounted system he used on you and request the calibration paperwork. Also, telling the judge that you know you were speeding, but really doubt the speed the radar come up with, he may grant you some leniency. Also, if it was foggy or misting, other traffic around, radio towers or something like that which could cause intereference, bring that up too.
FA53 may be the radar's serial number or agency-assigned "rack" number.

The time to catch is easily explainable. He was going the opposite direction and had to make a U-Turn to go after you. Regardless, it is of no bearing on the case and the court will not care either. Its a non-issue.

It is a perfectly straight stretch of road with good line of sight for long distance. Chances are his radar was locked on you for quite some time. If you did as you say and floored it, its unlikely he was locked on someone else going faster. So the SODDI defense is pretty much out the window.

So this boils down to two possible scenarios:

1) You were going that fast whether you admit it or not.
2) His radar was completely wrong

It will be a tough sell in court.

the local cops around here are not allowed to use radar/laser, only state troopers are. The locals use stop watches and horizontal white lines that are painted on most roads. There is no way they can be accurate, if theyre even half a second off of pushing the button, it can throw your speed off if youre going the exact speed limit. 2 months ago my girlfriend got pulled over in my truck for supposedly doing 48 in a 45. I think the only reason she was pulled over was because I still had my oklahoma plate on my truck. but seriously 48 in a 45? wtf!

The majority of the local cop speeding tickets that are given out around here are fought and won

Dang... sorry to hear about the ticket, I got one last night for not knowing my lights weren't on in the middle of a well-lit city. -.-

He was not going the opposite direction. There was no one going that way the whole time. from 1 stop light to the other.

I am not denying I was speeding. I just have issues with the speed he says I was going. I know I was not going that fast and my GPS backs it up regardless if they wanna believe it or not.

Ok, Since no one else has asked yet. What was the speed limit? How fast do you say you were going? And how fast did the officer say you were going? I'm just curious because it sounds like you are going to a lot of trouble to try and find a way out. So there must have been a huge diff. in speeds to try and get the fine lessened.

Well it says moving radar so I assumed he was in the opposite direction. So where was he? I'm assuming you didn't pass him in the left lane....

There was a 6 vehicles including my self. So I am guessing he was behind the other 5 vehicles as we all went through the first signal light.

your best bet would honestly be to get an attorney and fight it, i got a ticket for 68 in a 40 i got an attorney, and he won it for me.

there are always ways around things, and the attorney would have a better chance of fighting it than you, no offence or anything thats just my .02 cents
