Share22 SANTA CRUZ COUNTY - Investigators say two people with high-powered rifles and dressed in camouflage opened fire on a group of illegal border crossers.

The suspects are still at large.

Santa Cruz County Sheriff Tony Estrada says it happened early Friday morning up Peck Canyon, just west of Rio Rico.

He says, "the suspects opened fire on them. The people who crossed the border spread, they scattered. Four of the seven people were able to make it up to the Rio Rico area and one of them had been shot."

Sheriff Estrada says the gun shot wound to the person's forearm is non-life threatening.

Estrada says the suspects were probably after drugs. But he fears the shooters might have been United States citizens. "They may be individuals who may be hunting illegal border crossers. That's really a big concern for us," he says.

He also says this same group of crossers found skeletal remains of a man from Mexico. "We don't know if that individual died of the terrain, some health problems he had or he might have been a victim. This is what happens up those valleys and canyons," Estrada says.

He says he hopes the investigation will determine if U.S. citizens are shooting at people crossing the border but says, "I hate to think that is what we're looking at but we're not going to dismiss any possibilities."

The group of illegal border crossers were turned over to the Border Patrol and are suspected of transporting drugs or people.

Well, I've been waiting on this one

Honestly, this is a huge issue along our borders. This happens to be the only country on the planet where we're told by citizens of another country that we have no right to arrest or deport them. Why don't they try doing this in Korea, China, or, well, any place else really. Some of those places, I'll bet they never see the outside of prison walls again for that, not deported. Not only that, but they want us to take care of them with our tax dollars, and hand them their life on a silver platter, and never question their criminal background. Give me a fucking break! And too bad the shooter missed!! They shoud have deported the guys who complained to law enforcement about it. Maybe they'd get home and say "Holy Crap!! They're SERIOUS up there!!" and people will stop coming illegally......

I honestly have no problem with people coming to the United States. But please do so legally, and follow protocall. Would they want Chester the Molester living next to them, unknown, unregistered, and unchecked? I wouldn't, and won't.

Oh, and get this Our Government is even giving parts of this country BACK to the Mexicans!! WTF!!

And here's the Closure Letter from the Refuge Manager Here

Id say for anyone willing to shoot illegals should get a license to do so Id be all for it, we have enough problems to deal with as it is, more illegal Mexican beaners aret going to help stay in your own god damn country and deal with it if they can't move here the right way then as soon as they are caught crossing our borders they should be dropped dead all we have to do is post "No trespassing violaters will be shot" and boom it's legal to do so lol

Honestly, I'd say either get National Guardsmen or a "Posse" of willing, and able, citizens to go in to those areas deemed too dangerous and clear it out full force. Heck, if we did that, and sent some cruise missiles into Mexico followed with a warning to back off, it might not be so bad! Send those cruise missiles into a couple of normal military targets at bases, and make sure you hit the Cartel Controlled areas really hard, and it just might cause them to wake up. We're not "Little New America anymore, it actually, REALLY hurts to mess with us!!".

where do i sign up?

this country is so full of bovine excrement that i'm almost sad to call myself an american
and we finally get a group of people stopping others from doing something ILLEGAL and they are the bad guys.

yes this is a free country and you can have all the rights in the world.....but if you just come here to be a squatter and live off our tax dollars without paying anything into them yourself, you deserve to be shot.

This is a complicated issue. I want the border walled off, secured, and protected. I want the mass exedous from Mexico stopped. I want the illegal immigration stopped. For the ones already here, the drains on society should be sent back. The productive members of society with jobs and no criminal record, fine not worth the effort. The drug traffic can and should come to a halt with this. If I could afford a trip to Arizona, I would go there just to join in the anti-protest protests.

HOWEVER... Shooting people for crossing the border illegally is not ok. Regardless of what country the person is from, you can't just kill people for the sake of avoiding their presence in your general vicinity. You don't shoot people for breaking the law. You shoot people for self-defense or the defense of others when a human life is in immediate danger [see applicable state law for "how in danger" it must be]. Sniping someone for crossing the border illegally is no less 1st degree homicide than shooting someone for running a stop sign.

Personal note, if someone is sniping drug trafficking border-crossers, it is still not ok, but I wouldn't care much....

Well for the time being, the same people that do it now. There is NO WAY this country has or ever will have the resources to round up and deport all or most of the illegal immigrants already here, especially the ones who live "normal lives" and go to work everyday. It is unlikely the people doing those jobs will go away anytime soon.

As that workforce starts to dwindle due to the lack of new replacement illegals, perhaps we can start forcing people off welfare and into the workforce. If jobs are that plentiful, welfare should have a short time limit and and be canceled or denied without exception. Reducing the load on welfare will reduce the load on taxes which reduces taxes for all of us. Its win-win. Illegals fade out or become legal. Degenerate welfare bottom feeders get a job or get lost. Taxes go down.

Well, here's the thing. Yes, it is wrong to just shoot people for crossing the border. However, they also tend to cross peoples ranches. They shoot the cattle. Shoot at Ranchers attempting to scrape a living off of that land. They trash the environment. And alot of times are carrying drugs. The Cartel openly operates in our border cities. Citizens get shot in the crossfire when clashes over the drugs being brought in turn to shooting. In that event, I'd say shooting should be a very good choise to tell these people to back off. But, that's just me. I look at it as an invasion of our country. As for those here to just earn a living. Well, can't get em all.

Hire a bunch of chinese to build a wall, they know what they're doing...any tunnels they dig, just kill those who come through it, and collapse it on their corpses.

Trespassing, killing a cow, and littering are not capital felonies in the United States. I completely understand the frustration with the property owners, and I would probably want to shoot them too. Or plant land mines. But it doesn't change the fact that shooting people you don't like is still not the right way to deal with it and it is still murder.

No, they aren't. But shooting at ranchers who are trying to protect their livelihood is. So is shooting at border patrol agents. So is trafficing billions of dollars of narcotics per year, virtually unchecked. So is threatening Ranchers who catch them crossing their property. THESE are the reasons to have someone with a level head down there with orders to repsond to fire with fire. Alas, morally wrong or not, I don't feel giving my country to someone else is a good thing. When you ban Americans from their own soil, and don't take drastic steps to stop the issue that closed the area down in the first place, then you've basically given that piece of the US to the mexicans. In my book, taking over any part of US soil is an act of war. This doesn't mean it's ok to shoot innocent people. By far, but the fact is, NONE of them are innocent. They are ALL walking all over our laws, unchecked, unpunished, and as I understand it, with encouragement of the Mexican Government. Many come here thinking this is their land anyhow, it belongs to Mexico. The come here living on our tax dollars, and demanding rights and money, and assistance that they've never earned. When they come here in that manner, we have no way of telling if they have some major disease that may plague the area in which they settle. We don't know if they're murderers, rapists, child molestors..... That is a serious threat. I certainly don't want MY kids living next to that.

Which brings me back to placing our National Guard along the Border. It would do well to declare the refuge area that the Cartels and smugglers have taken over as free fire zones. No Americans are allowed there anyhow. The only thing these people are going to understand is force. And by beating the living hell out of them, I think they'll finally get the point. "Get the HELL out of our COUNTRY!!" I don't mean for those that come here legally. I mean for those that care causeing such a heavy toll to be taken out of our tax dollars. You realize, that I as an American Citizen, AND a Veteran of our military, have less right to assistance than these guys do? I don't get offered grants to start my business. I don't get grants to buy my home. I don't even get to go on welfare if I'm having a hard time, and believe me, I've been there and was denied. Yet, these guys come here, and are given everything on a silver platter, and then demand that not only do they get their "Rights", they demand we change our language to SPANISH!! During the Bush Administration they were protesting, and took over a Post Office around San Diego and hoisted the Mexican Flag, and demanded we also take spanish on as the national language. Not only that, but the Mixican PRESIDENT came here to our congress and demanded we disallow American Citizens the right to have weapons! Saying we need to take high powered rifles away so that their citizens can get in easier! So how can one sit here and tell me "It's OK. It's Illegal to do anything about it". Honestly, right or wrong, I say no more.

Umm, perhaps in the former soviet union or some sections of Pakistan those are capital offenses. However here in the USA we are a little more civilized and value life a little more than that.

Respond to fire with fire is fine. Protect your life, fine. That is not the same as shooting someone you see floating across the Rio Grande in a car tire. You can't have it both ways and just shoot everybody.

There are ways to close our borders and protect it that make sense and are effective. Randomly shooting people who want to come mow lawns is not one of them.
