They should make some sort of big ass dome over the well with a hose at the top to atleast catch some of the oil before it spreads out but what do I know I make cans lol

They're going to attach a cap to the clean cut. The cap has a fitting for a new riser that will go to the surface to put the oil into tankers as it comes up from the well. This will work assuming they can get the cap attached.

silly question, but cant they just unbolt it? wouldn't that be easier that trying to cut it in half? I mean they had to get it down there right?

Hence the problem. They have to put that cap on in the middle of gushing high pressure oil in zero visibility. With cameras and robots that are floating in water. Its a serious challenge that may or may not work.

No, not simple as that. They've been using robots the whole time. They don't have that kind of dexterity or torque to just unbolt the flange. It doesn't work like that. If you'd been watching these ROV's work for the past week or two, you'd see how difficult it is to get anything done with them. Its a loser of a situation to be in because there is no good way to do anything.

the top kill was a good try but it is hard to kill a well from the top, if they could actually get down hole then it wouldn't be that hard but from the top is a difficult thing to do, usually it just gives you enough time to get some pipe in the hole and work your way down.

I really think your just going to have to wait until the relief well drills into the old well but that is usually quite a challenge and always takes more days than expected

i hears somewhere that Russia has had this happen may times and they just use a low impact a-bomb. basically the bomp melts all the stuff down there and seals it up. Plus it is low impact so the radioactive area would be reletively small, and the impact on the environment would be alot less than al that oil leaking out until they have a fix for it. Also, no one on the Atlantic coast is safe if that oil hits the gilf stream

Whatever happened to Kevin Costner's idea for the cleanup?

Forgive me for not googling it.

He has a skimming type device (several actually). Problem it's just as inefficient as any other "device". The spill is to the tune of 30 million gallons of spread out all over the gulf. A device the size of a pickup truck is going to take eons to clean that up.
