Default Ford to possibly phase out Mercury

CLICKY

I think they should. They really dont have any vehicle that stands out. Just a wast of money. The only thing though that DOES concern me are the jobs that will be lost

Murcury should just change, rather than go away. Build off road buggy's!! Or Pimpmobiles......

Hoping to make it much better than stock!

I just think there is no place anymore for a mid level car. I Mean you can buy a Ford and option the heck out of it, which brings into Lincoln territory now, pretty much negating the requirement of a mid level sedan.

Maybe if the mercury brand was used for a nice vehicle along the lines of the mini it would be good, but as a separate entity I think it's day has passed.

As for the job issue, I agree, but seeing as most mercury's are now built along side their ford counterparts I'm hoping that will be negligible.

just my .02

Edit: on a side note. I think mercury( except for the Murader) hasn't been around in Canada for about 8 years now.

they just need to bring it back to life, like a new Cougar, Marauder, Capri and maybe the Sable too. That Milan right now is good, and people are buying them becuase ive seen a few new ones along with hundreds of older ones.

Thats is due to the fact they build the exact same car ford does. They just change the badges on the car.

I never understood the mazda/mercury line up. Same goes for Chevrolet/GMC

It is the same freaking vehicle

I agree too. It seems there is no difference at all other than the badges and a few minor options.

Ford sent a statement to all the employees yesterday that this is not true at the moment and that it is just rumor for the time being. It has been talked about but nothing has been decided as of right now. But I do agree that it needs a change up and something that stands out of the crowd

Everyone re-badges cars these days, there are just different looks to them.

I think it's the same as the nissan datsun thing. They didn't need both so why bother. infinity was conceived ( obviously a lot later) and datsun was dropped.

I think Ford is going this route.

Worked with a guy years ago late 70's he had a Merc Capri I think it was called a Black Cat with a V-6 it was a beautiful car.I always wondered why the changed the body on them, should have kept the European look.

Ive always liked the crown vics/marauder bodystyle for some reason...If I had the money I would buy a vic or a marauder....looks like if I want one in decent shape, I better hurry and come up with the money.
