Amen, thanks for posting that. thats one of my favorite trace adkins songs. i hope everyone takes a moment this weekend to remember those who gave all to protect the freedoms we all take for granted every day. the meaning of this holiday always seems to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the usual holiday activities. I know i have a fellow soldier i will be thinking alot about this weekend.

This guy was our first. It hit us pretty hard, and brought reality to us that hadn't been in Combat before.

Sergeant Jeffrey R. Shaver of Maple Valley, Washington was killed on 12 May 2004 when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device in Baghdad. He was 26 years of age and is the first Washington National Guardsman killed in combat since the Korean War (1950-53).

This, too, was a pretty bad one. It wasn't an RPG that killed him, the guys that were actually with him when it happened. Apparently an RPD round went through his helmet. They were ambushing an Iraqi Mortar team responsible for raining hell apon our chow hall at Camp Cuervo, SE Baghdad.

Specialist Jeremiah W. Schmunk, of Richland Washington was serving with Company C on 8 July 2004 when his vehicle came under fire by small arms and rocket-propelled grenades in Baghdad. He was 21 years of age when he died.

Last one as we were wrapping up and leaving theatre. The round hit right between his sappy plates in his side.

Sergeant Damien T. Ficek, of Pullman, Washington, was killed on 30 December 2004 when his patrol was attacked by small arms fire in Baghdad. Ficek had been studying at Washington State University until the autumn of 2003 when the First of the 161st was activated. Ficek left behind a wife, Kyla and was survived by his parents and two brothers.

There were others who were wounded as well, quite a few. I thought we'd got off lucky. There were several other units we'd heard about who'd had a much rougher time.

RIP Gentlemen.... We'll keep watch now...

Working on gathering parts, paint, vynals, and such for the rest of the build LOL. I use this as an everyday truck, but it's also the only truck I have for hunting and general off road fun. Hoping to make it much better than stock!

I saw this in a picture gallery a while back, thought it was pretty kool.............my Wife made a 18X24 picture frame, with emblems, and patches on the matting, then this printed on cream colored paper, for he Dad who was a Marine in the Korean War.

VERY MOVING IMO, specially to a Veteran such as myself, along with the loss of my younger brother 2 yrs ago who had given 11yrs of service:
