At the end of a workday, leave your job at the place of employemnt and focus on all things that make you happy. Maybe consider a new job or carving a new trail in the world of employment. When someone or something comes along that is a problem and bums you out, set aside a certain amount of time to think about/address it, then when the time is up, move on to something else. Join a health club, buy some weights, get and ride a bike, jog, walk, swim, so some form of exercise, that in itself is an excellent way to lift a guy up. Along with not dwelling on the things that bum you out as suggested above, DO set aside time everyday for doing the things you do like, and stick to it unconditionally. Just a lil' food for thought.

This. It sounds like your employment situation is a (or THE) source of depression, so work towards improving that situation.

One of the best ways is to improve your employment is by improving your skills and knowledge. Go to school (doesn't have to be a typical university environment... could be an automotive class, welding class, heck... even cooking classes if that's what you fancy), read books, get certified, ask a co-worker to teach you new things, etc.

Just the act of going down that road of self improvement should help you eliminate the "going nowhere" mentality.

It might be painful to try to set aside time to study and work, but it will keep your mind occupied for the better. Plus, short term pain long term gain.

I would suggest looking at: NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), http://www.nami.org/ They cover a lot of stuff.
You didn't mention whether you're under a doctor or psychiatrist's care---if so, it needs to be someone you trust and believe in. Really hard, but if you're not happy with the doctor you have, you've got to keep searching. Are you taking any meds?

^ This.

Almost everything I would have said has already been said in this quote. The only other thing I could add is to try to commit a few random acts of kindness each day. It may sound dumb but it helps. All of this stuff has really helped me whenever I've been down.

If trying these suggestions don't help, you may need professional help. Whatever happens, just try to stay rational and remember that this slump will pass and that you won't feel this way forever.

Oh man my days with depression... Don't give up that's all I can say. Force yourself to do things, listen and watch things that motivate you. Don't ever isolate yourself, surround yourself with laughter and joy.

Having had my mother, uncle rod, my best friend for 27 years, and two day ago uncle mike pass on, all within a year I get a little down. This might sound a little bit strange to some but I go run a weedeater because I can just let all of my frustrations out, I love to work on small engines which helps me focus on positive things like the fact that I can take a something that others would call junk and turn it into a well functioning machine. I find it helpful to spend some time and at a place you enjoy.
