Default Seriously Ford?

This pursuit happened on Monday and it's sad how the CHP explorer got crushed like a soda can. The suspect vehicle was an 2003 F-150 and only sustained a dent on the rear bumper. These new police cars are crap compared to the crown vic.

Scroll down and watch the second video:

It did what it was meant to do. Crush and absorb energy. Wasn't exactly a light hit either. He came flying in

And that disabled the vehicle. A crown vic would not have sustained that much damage and would have kept going. It's sad that a 12 year old F-150 was built stronger than a brand new explorer.

Crown Vic's did the same thing...also a front end which is made to collapse hit the rear of a truck. Any vehicle would have done the same

The crown vic would have went up under the truck. But that was a pretty hard hit.

----------

And this is JUST 35 MPH

Cop had to be going Atleast 40-45, that's still fast as heck to be in a wreck. I know the truck didn't take much damage but it was only from behind. I'd say if it was anywhere but the tailgate the truck would've been slowed down extremely

Thats the general result when a car or suv hits the rear of a vehicle with a C-channel frame and a strong rear bumper. It would have been the same result whether it was a 50 year old f100 or a brand new f150. If the officer was going a little faster the truck would have been in his lap.

The officer was going too fast. He tried attempt a "PIT" maneuver (looked like at the last second that decision was made) and failed miserably.

Crown vics are tougher cars. I can't imagine how an explorer would look after being hit head on at 55 mph while at a dead stop like my co-worker was in a crown vic:

He walked away from the accident.

The crown vic has a full frame unlike the new explorer which is unibody.

That explains a lot. I'll take a crown vic any day for a police car over these new vehicles.

I don't want to see what the new aluminum F-150 will look like after an accident compared to the previous gens that were built with steel.

Sadly crown Vic's are gone,, and in a few more years no PD will be operating them.
At least in Houston, they've got, Chevy Caprice cars, Chargers, and a few camaros.
In my suburban city of Sugar Land, they've got tahoes and expeditions

not trying to create an argument but steel is much stronger than aluminum size for size. aluminum has a higher strength pound for pound though.

ive worked with both and i hate aluminum. its soft and gummy. i can scratch it with my fingernail sometimes. its also very temperature sensitive. it "grows" a lot when its warmed up just a little (thermal expansion). a well made aluminum engine block or heads will have steel thread inserts for every bolt that threads into them. meaning that aluminum is too soft to hold threads that will be reused.

trucks and suv's should be steel imo. save the aluminum for the little fuel efficient cars. or go carbon fiber...
