Post New ford ranger

I'm 19 gonna be 20, mostly just drive to work and go fishing and camping. Have a Nissan Altima right now looking for a small truck I can afford.
Looking at an 1999 Ford Ranger XLT , 176K miles , inside and out looks great! I just don't wanna waste money putting work in the truck. Looking to trade.

Would it be a good trade or a big mistake!?

Thanks

Does the truck pass a safety inspection?

CARFAX is clean no accidents or nothing. Looks great so far, I'm going for a test drive today.

check for rust in the cab corners, rocker panels, bottom of the doors, bed sides, fenders, etc. rust can be hidden from the outside so you have to look a little deeper. also the spring shackles rust bad and collapse. they are easy to replace but keep it in mind.

what engine/trans? 2wd or 4wd? makes a differnece on value...

I would add to look under the truck for rust too. Specifically where the front of the bed mounts to the frame and the rear of the cab. I had to do some pretty extensive repairs on my bed mounts and the rear cab floor behind the seats (1998 regular cab with 190,000 miles).

^^ yes i forgot about that. its the box tube looking bed mounts that run side to side. very common soft spot on many trucks. also radiator support where it mounts to the frame.
