I agree that you should definately make the money unavailable to your mother. This guy needs to be in jail and it is the ONLY way to get him out of your life. Like PhunkyMunky said, she'll never get out of it on her own. He is going to have to be forced out and it seems right now you have the power to make it happen.

As far as the money, get it out of the house! Being in your safe is no good because she knows where it is, will tell him, and he'll break in and steal it. Take it to the bank and open a CD with it. She won't know where it is, she won't have access to withdraw it, and it will earn some interest.

And finally, if you catch him committing a crime, CALL THE POLICE. He clearly already has a record and is already up shits creek. Another arrest will probably be a one-way trip.

DO put the money in a savings account instead of holding on to cahs like that. Then sit down with you mom and have heart to heart talk. i know me and my mon could always talk like that. tell her how you feel and that you see what it is doing to her. definitly dont give her the money though. But DO talk to her about it.
