Default Traction control.

Tonight I was driving a vehicle that had traction control for the first time ever, and maybe it's just me but I felt like it was holding me back far more than it was actually helping me. I have a fair amount of experience driving in snow, and the majority of it has been done in a rear wheel drive ranger so I'm used to feeling the traction and adjusting for it when it slips. But with this van when it slipped and I tried to do what I've always done to correct it, it caused me to slip and slide around even more than normal because it took control away from me.

Does anyone else feel this way or am I just too old fashioned for my age? Lol just looking for other people's opinions here no reason to be rude

You learned how to adjust your driving style for those conditions and now have introduced something that you aren't used too. What kind of van was it?

Yeah it kinda made me feel like the car was treating me like a five year old. When I can tell that I had enough traction to give it some gas to pull from a stop sign it just said "NOPE" and canceled out the throttle and wouldn't let me move at all.

was the van front wheel drive? if so then it all makes sense. fwd is very much different and requires you to relearn almost everything you know about bad weather driving...

btw it should have a button to turn the traction control off and let u spin the tires if needed. if only they could do that with ABS....

Front wheel drive always has and always will be better in bad weather than rear wheel

I never had any issue with it. It takes some getting used to but I won't trade having it for anything

It was front wheel but I have done a lot of driving in a front wheel drive as well as my rear wheel drive so I knew what to do regardless. Like I know it's helpful to some people but to me it just seemed to hold me back but maybe I'm just old school (or crazy)

Also there was a button, I pressed it until it turned off or so I thought but as soon as it broke traction it kicked in again.

In certain situations, traction control does actually hinder you. If you are stuck, you may have to shut it off to get unstuck. Traction control modulates the brakes to limit wheel slip. They came up with if for people who either can't get the concept or don't know how to drive in slippery conditions. ie. to protect people from themselves.

I guess that kind of was my point here. I know what I'm doing in snow and ice and it treated me as if I had never even driven before and I found it pretty annoying. because once I took the van back and parked it I drove my Ranger home and it was easier to drive lol

"safety features" instead of teaching people how to drive lets make the car harder to drive for those who do know how to....
