Thinking of going full size, share your thoughts on my find...
Have been wanting a full size since b4 getting the ranger...
found:
2002 f250 with the 7.3 turbo diesel (160,000miles)
extended cab, 8ft bed
it is a "salvage" vehicle, a car hit it in a parking lot the driver;s side door and rear door replaced,
---little ruse found the wells, and cab corers.... frame etc solid. straight lines on the body.
a body shop is selling the truck
thoughts on this upgrade?

The price doesnt sound too bad and the milage isnt shit for a 7.3 if it was maintained properly.

Re: Thinking of going full size, share your thoughts on my find...
Here's what you need to do. Figure out what the exact same vehicle would be worth if it were not a totaled out vehicle that got rebuilt......and reduce it's value by 33-50%. Be real honest with yourself and have no feelings or emotions about the totaled truck. Now from that, deduct what it would cost to clean up the lizard effect (different colored doors) and any other damage from the accident. This is about what it is worth. The bad news is, it's forever branded; the good news is, it's aged so this matters less than if it were late model and/or an exceptional vehicle. From this, you as a buyer must decide if you like the idea of driving something that has been totaled.
*Check with your insurance co before buying it to see if they will insure it.

according to KBB that same truck in very good condition is about
$10,700...and a salvage title knocks the value by about 50% so its right in the ballpark

That's something you would have to look over, test drive and make a decision. If everything checks out then that is a decent price. The miles are nothing for that motor.

Re: Thinking of going full size, share your thoughts on my find...
Definitely have to give it a solid check over but kbb is way lower than actual market value on clean diesel trucks now. So a real comparison is hard to do; I think 4500 is probably pretty fair for a good running and driving 7.3.

Re: Thinking of going full size, share your thoughts on my find...
Updated with pics...
Insurance will cover liability only..
Credit union is checking to see how much they can lend me...
And sadly, the ranger is on CL for sale...
Can see the replacement doors
Needs cab corners to pass inspection, but would bed line below the body line so no big deal. Wheel wells are good for being 14... and the tires where new beginning of the year.
Parked tight in the lot. He has been using it to haul his racing trailer... so you know it is running great...
----------
Her and I purchased a house, got engaged..... and I imagine in the somewhat near future, will start a family. The ranger would not be a good choice for a car seat.... and if I wait until I need a bigger truck, I will be more broke then NOW.
---Plus it is an excuse to buy a F250 since the 7.3 gets the same millage...
this was NOT a decision I came to lightly, and not sure if this f250 is the one. It will need some work, but it is in my price range....
