Battery life is pretty much electric cars biggest downfall. I drive a 600 mile trip every summer. 600 miles down. 600 miles back. I like to think I can get to my destination in 10 hours or less making maybe 1-2 stops at most. An electric car would require me to stop and take my 5-10 minute gas stops and turn them in to 45 minutes to an hour (without being able to drive to a restaurant or wherever). Charging would add another 3 hours to my trip and depending on the time I leave I may have to stop for the night and spend more money on a hotel room. Making my trip 2 days instead of 1. For a lot of people who work full time jobs. Getting from point A to point V(vacation) needs to be minimal because time off can be scarce. So until they can make a 200-300 horsepower electric motor that takes 10-15 minutes tops to recharge, I'll stick with gas vehicles

Don't know much about these technologies so excuse my ignorance on this,, but why not or have they came up with some sort of system that replenishes energy on kinetics. I'm sure they could come up with it in a vehicle.
By utilizing the rotation of the wheels and such.

Re: Tesla Motors, let's discuss?
Dont know much about them, but I see them all of the time around here. They are pretty common for a "higher end" car in SoCal.

This is actually fairly common. They all use regenerative braking to recover power and return it to the battery. This is the reason that a Prius will get better mileage in the city than it will on the open highway.

Always, in everything. Battery technology is the area that has lagged the worst in this area. There are a lot of really smart people working on it, so it will improve...

What they need to improve are mobile batteries as well

The concept is good, but we can make ICE's run of more than just gasoline that creates no emissions, cheaper to manufacture than electric powered cars and you don't have to replace the batteries. That and once a battery isn't at 100% charge, the motors start to lose power.

Isn't this a new idea! I am not a biker but I think it is a good idea. I don't know what it cost for the prototype but they are in the news!

This article says 130 miles and less than an hour to charge http://m.washingtonpost.com/national...c7d_story.html

This story repeats the same specs. Except for the 55 mile range is in 'economy' mode. 'Power' mode nets 33 mile range.
