yeah i grew up with them, my parents have 3 of them right now. they are a bit more work but they are the most loyal dogs we ever had growing up. ive got no doubt in my mind that they would willingly give there lives to protect there owners. they are great dogs.

Re: A new addition to our family
Right on man that's a good looking pup! I've also grown up with German Shepherds. They are by far the best guard/family dog you can have IMO. My dad was a K9 officer when i was young, so I've seen/heard what these dogs will dog for their owners. I recently moved out so miss the hell out of my folks shepherds. I'll get another one soon though!
If anyone in CA is interested in a German Shepherd take a look at this site. http://www.gsroc.org/ This is a great organization ran by good people. My family bought one dog from them and "adopted" another. We ended up keeping the one we "adopted." She is a great dog. All of the dogs come spaded/neutered with all shots taken care of. Some of the dogs even have had training! Dogs run about $500 per dog i believe. With everything taken care of, that's a screamin deal

ive heard about that organization, we actually have a similar one here in michigan but they didnt really have what we were looking for. my wifes cousin told us about this breeder and they have a great reputation in there area as far as quality of dogs they breed, some of there dogs have become search and rescue, police dogs and drug dogs.

Will be my next dog if I don't go Dobermann. Those pups are beautiful. Good luck with any training, it's a lesson in love and patients.

Re: A new addition to our family
If I was home more often or could take it to work, I'd get another german shepard in a heart beat. They're amazing dogs, I really loved owning one and wish I could have another.

Re: A new addition to our family
Very nice! I've always wanted a German Shepard dog, I've heard tons of great things about them. We have a German Shepard mutt right now, it's actually a pretty small dog, but it's by far one of the most protective dogs we've had... which IMHO is because of that German Shepard blood.
