Default New Mustang question... asking for your opinions

So I am in a "predicament"... which isn't too bad, honestly.

My truck has been giving me a lot of grief recently and I'm at a point where I'm going to sell it/trade it in. I've always said that my next car is going to be a Mustang, so I test drove one yesterday and well... it as fantastic.

My predicament is: Should I get the 2010 Mustang with the 4.6L, 5-spd now? Or should I wait a few years and get a 2011 Mustang with the new 5.0 and new 6-spd?

2010 Mustang 4.6L V8, 5-spd:
Pros:
- I'm getting great pricing on them
- good rebates available ($3500 off!!)
- 0% APR for 60 months
- I love the V8 sound and 300+ hp is more than enough for me
- I will probably NEVER go to a track to race the car
- I really like the new look for the 2010

Cons:
- inferior engine
- only a 5-spd manual

2011 Mustang 5.0L V8, 6-spd
Pros:
- 5.0!!!!!!!
- 6-spd!!!!!!
- better all around car
- better MPG's

Cons:
- no rebates
- will probably get sticker pricing
- no good buy rates
- more expensive
- will have to wait a bit longer to get it

So... help? I'm pretty set on giving up on the truck. It's just a matter of time: whether I'm getting rid of it NOW, or in a few months/years.

Please let me know what you all think. I have a good idea of what I'm going to do, but I figure your opinions are just going to help.. that much =D

Thanks everyone, in advance.

IMO If you don't have the money for the '11, and don't want to wait I would get the '10. It seems like you can get a really good deal on the 2010. But if you wait to get the 2011, who knows how much more your gonna have to put into the ranger to keep it running in the mean time.

ummm....If the truck is gonna make it until the 2011, and you can afford it...Sounds like the better car. But if you think you're gonna sink too much money in the ranger too quick, then get the 2010, still a sweet ride.

Truck is still at Ford, they will get back to me tomorrow to see what's wrong. I'm hoping it isn't too bad of a fix, but if it's going to be $2000+ to fix the truck, I'd rather trade it in.

The deal I got the the dealership was a 2010 Black on Black Premium coupe with the Comfort Package, HID's, 19's and rear view camera. Sticker was $35K, and they gave me under invoice at $32,333 (invoice was $33K+). I was looking for $31K, that's why it didn't happen today. This is all before a $3500 rebate from Ford, so I'm looking at ~$28K +TTL on a Mustang. With my trade and 0% financing, I'm not paying too much for it. Anyways.. that's just my situation. Spend $28K+TTL now and get a pretty sweet ride? or probably spend close to $37K+TTL+Interest for the same ride, but a 5.0 and a 6-spd? is it worth the $11K+ difference?

I would go for the 2011 hands down, although it sounds like getting it at release time wouldn't be ideal for all the reasons you've listed.

This might be a completely different take on what you're going for, but I would look at a used 09 from a private party sale. The 2009 would be like new, still under warranty, reliable, etc. and it would have depreciated in value for being a used car. You can then drive that for a year or two until the new mustang rush has simmered down. After which you can sell the 09 mustang at a private party sale (and since you bought it that way you should basically break even), and then buy a nice new 5.0 6-speed mustang.

Disclaimer: I have no knowledge of the used (or new) Mustang market.

EDIT: Just saw the $11K difference price, I say no. Go get your 2010.

Thanks Tommy! I was thinking about a used one (heck, even the dealership had "used" 2010 ones). But I just really like the way the 2010 looks. If I was going to go that route, I'd get a Honda or a Toyota for the time being, ahha. Hell, I still have my Lexus, so I'm good! =) I just have this Mustang/V8-envy right now and well, time is right for me and my girl to make a big purchase like this. You know me bud, haha. I'm a grandma driver... but hell... a 5.0 V8 does give me some bragging rights, yeah?

Hard decisions all around.

Body-wise, there's no plan for change, so if your main concern is the power, you could always slap a supercharger on a 09-10 demo?

Besides, the 5.0 is going to be a new engine, so i don't know about reliability...

Then again, my dealership sells a sweet shelby gt500 for 50k

The v-8 will be nice, but 300 HP and 30 MPG sounds DAMN Good to me !

I was in the same position a few years back. My old ranger was rolling 300+K miles and falling apart (Engine was still running, but the body was falling apart around it!). I got a great deal on a 08 v6 mustang (around 14k used, 5k miles on it at the time) and did some mod work on it. I put about $5k into it and it rides better than my friends GT and sounds really nice with the true dual conversion exhaust. I really wanted a GT as well, but couldn't justify spending the extra money on something I didn't NEED. I don't race, do track runs etc (mustangs arent the greatest for that anyways, they are more just for fun I think), so the v6 suites me perfect. You can save a lot of money if you get a V6, and put some really nice mods into it with the money you save. Mustangs are easy to mod as well, the mod community is big with parts everywhere. Since you probably have %90 of the tools already you can change it overnight with a small initial investment like exhaust, tuner, lowering/leveling kit and some sport suspension.
