I want to buy a 1/2" pneumatic impact wrench! Does anyone have any suggestions?

Ingersoll rand if you looking for quality. Otherwise harbor freight earthquakes aren't bad for the price.

Re: impact wrench suggestions!
Love my Snap-On. Can't go wrong with going with a good brand. I can't tell you the model number or it's torque numbers, but she's worked GREAT for me for more than 5 years now.

This question all comes down to how much you wanna spend. Are u just using it at home or are you in a shop looking to add to your tool collection of thing u use daily.

Re: impact wrench suggestions!
I'm with the guy above I would go with Ingersoll rand
http://www.amazon.com/Ingersoll-236-2-Inch-Impact-Wrench/dp/B0000AX9R2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1389639677&sr=8-3&keywords=ingersoll+rand+1%2F2+air+impact
http://www.amazon.com/Ingersoll-Rand-2130-2-Inch-Heavy-Duty-Impact/dp/B0002UNR6W/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1389639644&sr=8-4&keywords=ingersoll+rand+1%2F2+air+impact
http://www.amazon.com/Ingersoll-Rand-2135QTIMAX-2-Inch-Titanium-Impactool/dp/B000WMR8H4/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1389639666&sr=8-5&keywords=ingersoll+rand+1%2F2+air+impact

Re: impact wrench suggestions!
Ingersoll rand are top notch if you have a compressor that can handle the CFM they require.

Re: impact wrench suggestions!
thanks for the great info. this one from harbor freight is $97. it got good reviews. http://www.harborfreight.com/air-too...nch-68424.html I would just be using it sparingly as a hobbyist mechanic. if I could get one for $100 that was not a piece of crap that would be great. Anythingcanhappen posted an Ingersoll rand for $89 that had a toque of 440 lbs. I wonder what torque I would need to remove a crank bolt? thanks again.

I wouldn't suggest taking and engine apart with an impact anyways. not a good idea especially a 1/2 inch drive I would use a 3/8th or do it by hand. Maybe I'm just cautious and if im taking main caps off of a crank I would much rather not break a bolt off in the block.

I actually don't do much engine work. I do have some timing belts to do and it looks like an impact wrench would help removing the crank bolt, etc. Thoughts?

Oh yea that an impact is probably the only way. They are tight as hell

I just am a hand tool guy in my shop I get very leery on putting a lot of torque on something you don't know its gonna move so usually I break stuff lose by hand then just use an impact to zip it out and in that case a 3/8ths gun will do fine

Re: impact wrench suggestions!
If I were you I would buy these
http://www.homedepot.com/b/Makita/N-5yc1vZyg
The makita impact driver or any cordless impact driver for that matter is great
Now that I have one I reach for that over my regular air impact gun almost every time.

Re: impact wrench suggestions!
Check out Pawn shops. I have a Husky brand 3/8th gun it does what I need it to do. I thought I was going to use it more when I bought it. I use mine for motor mounts after I break them loose by hand.
If you choose to use it when loosening the bolt on a lower pulley, or related bolts. I recommend using extreme caution with the process. You are asking for trouble IMO specifically if it is your first time working with a buddies, or a customers car. You could buy some decent breaker bars, and save some pesos. For ratcheting boxed end wrenches....
