Default Way off topic. Q's about a Camaro

Ok its not mine. lol my friend has a 1990 Camaro RS 3.1L V6 with an automatic trans. It runs like shit most of the time. Spitting and sputtering, the service engine light comes on and the speedo goes dead. The exhaust smells like it runs to lean at times and to rich other times. i appreciate any help.

The 3.1 is a junk engine, had one in my Century. If I were you, I'd give it a full tune up and change the timing belt/chain (I don't remember which it has).

yeah i agree their junk. weve gave it a complete tune up plugs wires checked relays and fuses the usual. ive never thought about the timing chain. i have thought it was some sort of sensor being the culprit.

Lol I blew mine up because of it, and my understanding talking to other people is that it is a major reason they die. Mine also had 177000 miles on it before it died. Other than that check the MAP sensor, I do not think they have a MAF, also the cam sensor, crank sensor, oh and do a compression check too, might also do a leak down check while you are at it. Might also check to see that the exhaust isn't partially plugged.

I'm a GM guy too, but I inherited my Ranger and honestly been one of the best trucks I've ever owned. On topic the only way for him to make the thing worth a damn really is a 350 lol or other small or big block combo. There is a reason you never see 3rd Gen six cylinders on the road lol At least in good working order lol

HONDA EVIL!!!! lol but I have built 6 Hondas, they are gnarly little cars. But you can pick up a good 350 for cheap and slap it in the Camaro....just a thought. The suspension on the Camaro of that gen are awesome for handling and drag racing if you do it right
