Myself, I'd go with a real wood stove, not pellets. Logs are bit more hassle to load, but less expensive fuel if you can cut your own wood. Then you're free of pellet maker$. And you can often get free firewood from many sources. Yeah, chopping is more work, but a log splitter machine (& teenagers) solves that. Sweeping a chimney is messy, but super easy, with a cheap flue brush (unless you're scared of heights).

Pellet stoves aren't horrible, they just aren't efficient. It can and will heat up a house but it'll take a while and eat up a lot of pellets.
Like I said before, go with propane heating, actual wood heating, or even natural gas if available.

I would to myself if I was able. You have more control on what you burn and the costs involve.

I honestly think pellet stoves are more efficient if you have to buy wood. $250 a ton and about 50-60 pound of pellets to operate a day.
Big this we like about our wood stoves is we will just start a bigger fire of the nights and keep it going through the morning, then during the day we let it die out to save wood

They can be if you look at the pellets you buy and took care of the stove. It also depends on what type of house you have and how well it's insulated. Mine is really good at holding in heat.
