When the police Chargers first came out, I read somewhere that the city cars would only get the V6 while the cars more out in the rural country areas would get the V8.

I work for the KHP and we use the Vics right now but are converting to Chargers because we cant have a low sitting car due to crossing interstate meadians and dirt roads. Also we need a real big motor due to people are already going 70ish plus if they are speeding.

They all seem to like it. Its fast and we do Highway action mostly so its actually a good gig for our uses.

I wouldnt want to pull out of a ditch into 70mph traffic in one...So good luck...The HP here have billboards up all over with the charger on it "company car included"...I just find it funny because I hear nothing but bad things about them from the cops down here.

Our only problems with them is the ice. Which we get a lot of in winter but all the guys I work with say they are awsome which I'll take their word because they actually sit in one for 8 hours a day.

well from what I heard, the highway patrol chargers have the v8's, but nearly every other just has a v6, but i'm sure some stations use the v8 version for normal patrol.

You guys forgot about one major thing about to happen in 2011. What is Ford Motor Company bringing out of "retirement"? That's easy a Modular Version of the 302. Plus just about all unibody cars are considered unsafe in my book. Once the frame is bent or altered in any way consider it toilet paper. Basicly I look for Ford to go with the Taurus sho with an ecoboost 5.0 in 2011 and use the current 3.5 Ecoboost V6 for smaller areas and the V8 for highway patrol/state troopers whom do alot of opened area work. I doubt very seriously a mustang will even be considered. The Chargers that most use now suck. They'd do better with a Concord than the charger. Plus that 5.7 liter "semi hemi" stroked by chrysler to a 390 eats fuel badly and Cops that I know hate the Chargers. Alot of them have went to Impalas and converted them to RWD rather than the FWD. I seen 2 of them get that done this week. IMO, I think that the Police Depts. don't get fair treatment from automakers. They always seem to get outdated crap that nobody wants which is wrong and bad for business in general.

I used to be on the dept, in my home town, and they have CV and Explorer. The local Ford dealer does a good job with the City, so al of City cars/trucks are Ford.

The county boys got mostly CV, I've seen a few Charger, and very few Chevy. I don't recall now, but they do NOT like FWD, they don't handel well with high speed.

That's why you redo the suspension. Change out sway bars, shocks, tires and brakes, coil over springs etc. If they'd go with a bigger sway bar and different shocks and lower the ride height it will handle like a dream especially in the corners during any high speed pursuits. You want the vehicle to stand a little higher than normal when sitting still. But when you floor it you want the vehcile to suck closer to the ground. Body channeling will also help in gaining better traction at higher speeds.
