Default My resume-help

So, Im trying to get a new part-time teaching job at the local community college in the Drafting department. I am a Draftsman by trade and work at the local granite quarry for those of you that don't know. I'd like to get away from the quarry so that I can make more money and dont have to sit behind this computer for 8 hours a day.

I have a great chance of getting the job due to the fact that my fiance's dad is a part-time teacher over there and his boss(department chair of Engineering Technologies) is looking for someone. I've already had a small interview and he is running it over with the Dean. I want to get him a copy of my resume. Also, I'd like to just have one ready in case the opportunity ever presents itself. I already have one, but i have made one that i like ten times better. I just need help writing a dang careet objective that sounds smart and knowledgable! Its been so long since i had to do this, im just not very good at it. I think I have a VERY nice looking resume though. Remember, I just graduated college in 2008, so my job related experience is not much other than my current job.

To help you help me think up of a better objective, I have knowledge of drafting, computers, customer relations, etc...

here is my resume I am working on, tell me what you think. I know--I have FOUR NAMES!

I would recommend using much stronger words, your resume just comes off as so passive.

Ex:
you: "Knowledge of SolidWorks"
new: "Efficient with SolidWorks"

you: "Ran a register if needed"
That makes it sound like you only did it because you were forced to, and there was no one else available, they turned to you as the last resort. Something more like "Responsible for running a register"

Also, I'm not sure why you've included all your best stuff last. I've gone through stacks of resumes and IMHO, it's true that the person reading it will likely only skim it. So if the first thing they see is that you've worked in a meat market and then look down to see you have a high school diploma I don't think that helps your chances. I would recommend resorting your list with the most recent (aka the best) stuff at the top.

Where i dont know where to draw the line is when im listing duties. You say they skim over it, that's why it is short and sweet. but when i go in detail, it looks like paragraphs, and i know if i was hiring, i would want the short and sweet and to the point. I know i could use some stonger words as well.

There's no need to go in detail, save that for the interview.

Stronger words should be in substitution for the passive words as in my examples above... "Knowledge of" versus "Efficient with" it's the same amount of words, still short and sweet and to the point, just a completely different tone.

Thanks Tom, i have reversed the order and replaced some of the words with stonger words. See if you can attack that lame excuse of an objective!

Tom is spot on with his advice. Try to keep the resume to one page. Detailed, in a short to the point way. All most vague, if this makes any sense. Like Tom said, save the details to the verbal part of the interview. Sell yourself, you are your biggest fan.
