Default Porter Road in Ellington, CT - Finally, a place to off-road

Found it.

A legal road for some fun off-roading in Ellington.

Porter Road, a few miles off of route 83, is paved for about 3/4 of a mile... then the pavement just sorta stops.

Ahead is a fun and relatively challenging off-roading trail. You're basically driving on rocks, so you have to take it slow most of the time. Any time there were some REALLY big rocks that I didn't trust my truck with, the 4-wheeling public seems to have carved out some "workaround" trails, if you will.

I only went like half a mile in. The rest is for you to discover!

No... it doesn't...

I've been there, it's a legal road. There's even a sign that says something like "PAVEMENT ENDS, PROCEED WITH CAUTION." This most certainly implies one is allowed to proceed, despite the lack of asphalt.

I also noticed that upon first entering the area, there is a fork in the road, and the right of the fork is chained off, which may be what you're referring to. But the left side is Porter Road.

Google Maps won't get you there, and it never got me there. But exploring with my truck did

I actually went on the 4th of July. As you may remember, it was a horrible day weather-wise, so I didn't feel much like getting out of the truck to snap a few pics... wish I did though. Still, it was a fun rainy-day activity that allowed me to "get outside" on the 4th while still having a roof over my head.

Also, remember... my truck is old, bone stock, and SHITTY. The half-mile that I saw resulted in nothing my truck couldn't handle... in the rain no less...
