ok, Im probably a ******* here but, how do I get a picture of my desktop, I mean showing the icons and everything?

Thanks Tom for posting this. I had to download Gimp, but for some reason I click the print screen button and then click the gimp button, and hit control v it says nothing is saved into the clip board. Am I doing something wrong?

I just press print screen, then open paint, and select paste from the menu.

It'll show all that you see on your desktop
