Default Cellular devices. your question my answer.

I've answered a lot of questions on cell phones service , apps, ect, so thought I'd make a thread. If you have any questions on service, apps, cell devices or the specs of the device ask here. Now remember I work full time so give me time to get back with your answer. I've worked in the industry for over 15 yrs . I'm full of useless info lol.

Is it dangerous to jailbreak the iPhone5? I will obviously have it backed up. Is it dangerous to upgrade the operating system, I plan to go to iOS 6 when it is available and jailbreak is ready for that release.

It voids all warranties and insurance. Also I've see it kick the phone off the network and no one is allowed to help get it back on. Jailbreak is like the android rooting, you run the risk of bricking the phone. Need to know what your doing! But iPhone 5 will get the ios6 soon. I'd leave it alone.

Excellent thread idea man!

Anyone asking questions here should make a donation to this man

I spent 4 hours on the phone with Samsung & another 5 hours online chatting with their "customer service techs" over the past few days and they don't seem to have any idea about why I can't connect my stupid phone to the pc via usb.

I've tried everything I can find online, even tried multiple usb cables, usb ports & spent yesterday trying everything again on another computer... guess what... stupid thing still won't send a file over usb.

I'm giving up now, just ordered a silicone cover that should be easy to get off the phone where I can remove the microSD card to transfer files.

Yes it does void the warranty while jailbroken. If something ever happens to your phone while jailbroken (i.e. screen not cracked/broken to where you can't even operate or dead battery type of deal) as long as you have your system backed up, all you have to simply reset to factory defaults through iTunes and then reload your data to return your phone to normal with no trace of it ever being jailbroken, thus warranty is not voided (I've been through that process with Apple before and no issues). Not to contradict you by any means but it used to be a huge undertaking and hassle to jailbreak an iphone/idevice where you had to power route and go into the coding/programing mode (where there was always a huge risk of messing the phone up completely), now all you have to do is download the program, start said program, plug in your iphone/idevice and hit jailbreak. It used to be a 30-45 min process where you could potentially "brick" your phone, now it usually only takes a 2-5 minutes and no issues of worrying about software. I do agree you do have to know what you're doing for sure, but the info is out there is and very straight forward.

No, upgrading to the new operating system for your iphone/idevice is not dangerous because it's being released by Apple, would they release a product that would be harmful to their consumers? Probably not. But me personally, I'm going to wait a little while to update to iOS7 when it comes out because usually when they release a new version there are some bugs out there (which is why they update in the first place to fix problems). Yes they do beta testing but the beta testers don't always find everything. So going to probably wait until the an update comes out for iOS7 and then upgrade. Or if I find out that there are no major issues, I may upgrade a few days after it comes out and there is solid info out there about it.

It is also not dangerous to jailbreak your idevice. As I said above, that used to be the case because it was a long drawn out process but now it's very simple to do. Just make sure you read up on the process before you try to jailbreak because everytime Apple updates the iOS, a new jailbreak has to be created by finding a new loophole in their firmware to allow third party coding/software into the operating system, thus causing Apple to update to stop the loophole, causing a new jailbreak (either using same loophole or new one)... It's a never ending cycle. If you want to jailbreak, you were correct in saying you would back it up, do so with itunes. There are other programs out there as well. Before jailbreaking, read up on what jailbreaks are out there for what iOS version you may have. If you have updated your phone through Apple to the newest one ( iOS 6.1.4), you may not be able to jailbreak yet as their is not one available. But I haven't checked in a while so I'm not sure. I have yet to jailbreak my iPhone5, but I did with my iPhone3, 3GS and 4s. Keep in mind, if you do jailbreak, DO NOT upgrade your iOS at all. The jailbreak is designed for the specific version you have. Best place to go for all the info is iphoneforums.net. Go to the jailbreaking section and you'll find tons of threads for jailbreaking methods, programs, things you can do while jailbroken, etc. There is also a great thread on there with a title like "Read this before jailbreaking". It gives you a ton of info to help you decide if you really want to jailbreak or not.

Hope this was helpful. But I've seen the OP post in other threads and he knows his cell tech. Great thread idea!

thanks buggman just trying to help out everybody here! you might want to do a full factory reset on your phone. Sometimes you just have to do it on these phones to get things to work right.

no contract plan sprint offers a pay as you go $70 a month for iPhone 4 I believe and a couple Android phones $70 a month no credit check unlimited usage. best one in my opinion sprint the last carrier that doesn't throttle your data speeds T Mobile says its unlimited data but after two gigabytes usage they pull back the throttle so that your data speeds are to the point you don't want to use em.there are other prepaid plans out there depending on where you live different companies. I suggest anyone looking into prepaid look into the drawbacks a prepaid vs postpaid before you make any decisions.

----------

make sure when you going to your cell phone stores to upgrade your contractor look for new service with a different carrier that you're asking them if they're discount based off of where you work what you have like AAA membership or credit union I know Sprint has a ton of them that are high-volume discount off of your monthly rate verizon offers it I believe AT&T as well but you gonna have to ask, sales people are not always the best people when you walk in the store, they look at you as a dollar sign and not looking at you as a valued customer. and whatever you do don't pick up service based off of the phone cost $50 cheaper and want company verses another. this is probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen people do. You'll end up spending more money other than that $50 by picking the wrong company in the wrong rate plan that takes care of your needs .

as far as an iPhone jailbreaking. It is not as always as easy to restore it as some people think it is. It can get stuck in a restore loop. an apple technician can see if a phone has been jailbroken and Restored.the jailbreak is not completely gone if they find out they report the serial number as hacked and you can no longer receive help from Apple or the carrier that you're using the iPhone under. if you decide to do a jailbreak on iphone make sure you have an insurance that covers your phone lost or stolen so that if it does come back with errors or gets caught up in the restore loop just report it lost weight your time pay your money for deductible get your new iPhone and don't do it again. I've seen too many cases of people coming in with jailbroken iPhones nothing I can do to help them, because they didn't know what they were doing. the iOS 7 beta version I have seen its not that great, wait for the one to be released by Apple has bugs in it its major drain on the battery things don't always work like they are supposed to in a beta version. Besides I OS 7 will be out soon enough.

Hmm.. maybe things have changed since I've been doing my jailbreaks, but that was only a year or so ago. I've read and have been told by people that work for Apple that as long as you factory reset and then restore it there is no trace. Maybe they have found a way to trace it. Good to know they can track it now I guess.

And agree 100% on iOS7 statements. Betas are cool at first but they generally suck in comparison to the real version lol.

Glade you like the thread! Thought this is how I could give back to you guys. I'm no truck expert but I know a few things about cellular industry. A lot has changed in past 2 years. Security is tighter. Heck use to you could bring in a phone that you found on the ground and recycle it as a credit on your bill. Know if the Dec number is reported lost or stolen you can't recycle it or ever use it.

INSURANCE

Guys get the insurance! You know you can get a iPhone 4 for free with upgrade or activation? But with no insurance you loose that phone its going to cost you 500 dollars to replace that same iphone4. Or you pay the 8 -11(or whatever the companies offer) dollars a month and if you loose it pay a deductible of no more then $200 and they replace the phone. Think car insurance, pay it for 20 years and one day on the 20th year you have a wreck.are you asking yourself how much extra a month you paid into it for 20yrs, or you thinking damn glad I have it! guys it's a no brainer protect your investment you buy peace of mind for yourself. If something bad were to happened you're covered, something never happens great. BTW I have it on all 4 of my phones used it once in 12yrs (saved me $450 I didn't have). WIN FOR ME!!

I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S3 and the wife has one too...both under a shared plan with AT&T.

I would like to get the S4 but i cant upgrade til next year....by then im sure the S5 will come out.

Only thing i hate is hooking it up to my pc to transfer pics and files...i hate that stupid Samsung Kies....well its better than my old Windows phone and using Zune software.

I haven't rooted or done any OS modding to my phone...i may be a computer tech guy but im not very good with dealing with phone systems.

And i hate annoying updates and new stupid features....just recently got this stupid little quick tab that showed up on my left side of the screen...a quick way to access shortcuts...wtf...theres already a quick way to get at stuff....now they are making shortcuts for shortcuts...just stop already!!
And then i started getting these new info instructions showing up....wtf i already know how to use my phone and do this stuff!!

Oh and another issue...when im on here and typing in the forum and i want to paste something in...it always wants to go to he top of my message and never where i want it...i fight with that alot..

OK. The thing on the left side is the,"nub" lol that's what I call it. You can do split screen apps on it. But you can also turn that feature off.

As far as hooking your phone up to your computer just use your USB cable and plug the phone in. Thats how you by pass using kies.

Wait for s5, note 3, or mega. Your phone is a great device. Hold out for now. S4 was a feature phone. Wasn't worth a upgrade for me.

The pasting issue you talk about lol I struggle with that as well! Still working on that.
