Need help connecting to internet.
So I got this really old desk top slow as fuck. But it works. Theres no use throwing it away. But its a old computer and I can't hook it up to my fucking wifi. It says to run it off another computer I need the ip address. So I need all you computer nerds to help me find out how to get my ip address on the computer i am on.
Thanks in advance!!!!

Re: Need help connecting to internet.
Doesn't a desktop run off a main line i.e. a phone line?

Re: Need help connecting to internet.
Yes but it's in my moms room and I don't have 50 feet of damn internet cable fuck. Maybe I can talk her into letting me move the modem from in her room to mine.

Do you have a router? A laptop?
If you have a router and a desktop...you can get an adapter...I believe. or just move the modem into your room.

Wi-Fi, literally stands for Wireless Whatever, so David's correct. It is for other devices, such as laptop, IPad/IPhone, etc., and the way our desktop is set-up, we have a router (with built-in modem) hooked to the desktop and plugged into the wall. I don't think that you can have a wireless desktop because that takes away from the whole concept of mobile computing.

The router has to be hooked to something, regardless. I don't know if it can just be plugged in, but it doesn't need a desktop, so maybe a router can be hooked to a wireless or other periphereal, such as a printer.

Depending on how old it is you can buy a wireless card for it but by the time you buy one of those you could buy a 50" cord

Cost doesn't seem to be the issue. He doesn't want a 50" cord if he can set things up wirelessly, and he has an outdated desktop. So, he really doesn't need to set-up a desktop wirelessly, however, I think it can be done. Anyway, I found a link that might be helpful:

Re: Need help connecting to internet.
probibly easyist to move the router to the computer or run the cable to it... i had to do both, my better computer that i use i put the wifi router next to it, then i got another older computer for my mother to use untill she could get a new one, and ran a big long cabe up through the celing to her computer. it's a pain in the ass but it does the trick.
