Default Vietnam in HD.....

I just got through watching Vietnam in HD on the history channel. It'll be back on again here in 30 minutes or so. I missed the first 15 minutes of it tonight talking to you guys and forgot to keep an eye on the time, L.O.L. Unbelievable is all I can say. And it's even harder for me to believe that mom was expecting me when Saigon fell in April of 1975. That makes me feel old. Did anyone else on here watch it? and what were your thoughts about this new series? Tonight was the 3rd and final night of it.

It will be on again here in 13 minutes. My dad failed his physical. They found a heart defect of some kind so he didn't go. My mom was in highschool and she finished in 1969. I'm going to try to get it on dvd. There's one fact that they said that I don't agree with at all and that was the number of bombs used in Vietnam. They said that they used more bombs in Vietnam than they did in WWII. I have a WWII aircraft collection here that disputes that fact very seriously. In WWII is wasn't nothing to hear of the 8th airforce's 1000 plane raids on a daily basis during that war. This happened frequently up until Germany and Japan surrendered.

I know man. It took them over 2 years for WWII. It didn't take know where near as long for Vietnam considering that reporters covered the war on tv and all they really had to do was retsore the footage and put it in HD.

----------

Time to go. It's getting ready to come on here in 3 minutes. I'll see you guys tommorrow.

They said almost twice as much as dropped on Germany during WWII.

I watched all 3 nights. I will keep my thoughts to myself on the series tho.

I think they didn't write it correctly myself. Welcome back.

Good afternoon
The series on Viet Nam in HD is ...fairly accurate. My father flew 8th & 9th AF in Europe (B-26 M.M.) and then again in Korea (A-26 Douglas) and then again as AF advisor in Viet Nam. I was on the ground and flying in Viet Nam 68-69-70 MACV ICORP (advisor) We dropped a ton of bombs (pun intended) and in fact, more tonnage then WWII. If I remember right, 1 @ F4 can carry more tonnage then 17 B-17, much the same for 105 Thuds and as for B-52s....yoweeeee. We were told to be min 4 k out from and inbound "arch light" strike ( the code name for B-52 strike). This was usually a three (3) aircraft strike and a sight to see, at least in the impact area as they were often dropping from 35,000+ feet. They could drop everything from 500 GP all the way up to 2,000 "dumb bombs". We would go in to do BDA (bomb damage assessments) afterwords.

The reason I ended up here is I was doing a bit of research on the Ford Rangers that are made in the Ford plant between Ha Noi and Hai Phong. I got nice photos of it when I was back in '98. That of course, is what we use to call (and still do), North Viet Nam. How things do change.
