yeah some people will have good luck with a certain product, in this case a laptop, and someone else may have terrible luck with the same product..

One thing i'll give dell is, they have an amazing support system.

Earlier this year i had a p3 650 laptop that i wiped and needed drivers for, found everything on the website in seconds. It still worked perfectly, the batteries held up a good charge and the dvd drive was mint, overall a very good quality product.

Don't know about the newer ones, but since everyone nowadays uses the same parts..

Well that's a bunch of BS. Or you remove one screw, slide out the CD drive, slide in a new one, and have it running in 5 minutes. Though I've never had one break at all to even have to do that.

My brother was hunting for a laptop couple of months ago. I spotted one at FRY's for $499. 15.5" screen, Intel i5, 8 Gig Ram, 500 G hard drive, and a multi do eveything DVD drive. Those are the specs you should try to beat for $499 cause that was a sweet package. BTW it was a Gateway.
