Re: Windows 7 vs Linux
Unlike with Microsuck you are free to legally spread your OS download to as many PC's/people as you want. Worst case scenario in time with accumulated shit..erase the HD and re-install..you are free to do that... unlike with Microsuck or Mac if you take the time to read the agreement.
Unlike with Microsuck and MAC this is true 'open source' ..any other such comment by whoever will show a total ignorance of what that means.,..no it isn't Freeware or other such shit you can be tricked into..to pay latter. Google operates by way of a now huger than ever farm of PC's..all using Linux as an OS. China, Japan and eslewhere in the world where countries are devastating the manufacturing sector here..they mostly use Linux due to its efficiency and lack of cost. Therefore increasing the bottom line.
This is not 'Rocket Science' either...just check it out.

Re: Windows 7
For anyone that think they can do it. Add a hard-drive to your PC..not as a slave but direct connection to your MB if possible. You will need to figure out how to pick which HD to use at start-up or rebooting. And from then on you can experiment/learn different Linux distributions...legally. I'd recommend openSuSE..others may suggest something different. You will have to get used to it, and use it for a while..in time you will see how much more unobtrusive it is to use compared to either Microsoft or Mac. And no cost. I miss openSuSE greatly. Bought this Gateway new this past July...asked for no OS with a discount...no..so I'm using Microsuck again after 5 years using Linux. I've seen several times what I don't like about it already. With Linux you never use driver CD's or have to do de-fragmentation. No mysterious scans or an Anti-virus program. No money pit like Microsoft. You have to use it for a while to appreciate its' advantages and how you just in time feel better using it. Any problems/questions..there is lots of advise to help you...way more useful than the forums of the other 2.

Re: Windows 7
I run ubuntu on my netbook. my netbook runs a lot quicker now then when it was running xp. but i only use it to surf. havent gone much further in with other programs on it. very user friendly though.
i gave a copy of it to my buddy and he just installed it alongside his windows so whenever he boots up he chooses which os to run.

Re: Windows 7
i am curious when my employer will bump up to windows 7. i am slightly not looking forward to it as i am the local site IT help...and i can guarantee 90% of the people will freak out with a new OS and whine about not knowing where things are anymore. we are still on XP.

Re: Windows 7
Windows 7 has been out for quite a while but is now catching on . It takes a lot of space , but the drives are bigger today , and memory , you should run at least 2 gig for 32 bit and 64 bit can use 4 gig . I got my wife an HP laptop about 6 months ago and we had some problems converting email - outlook - to the newer style email version . A few trips into work and to google and it was all set . You can also transfer all or some of your info from your old pc into the new one . get a cable ( it should come with your upgrade or buy it , usb type ) and there is a program in 7.0 that will run . Windows 7 is a complete upgrade from any of the other os systems and is the most stable . I would compare it to XP on steroids . It can do a lot more with music and video than the older OS's . It is easy to use , but you may have to get used to some of the newer style of navigating around it as it is different than XP , XP Pro or any other windows . My wife loves it as we transferred the " stuff " from her old pc to the new one and she did not lose any data . I have not gotten it for me yet but as soon as my pc goes , the next one will automatically have 7.0 on it from the factory .

You guys should be fine. Microsoft is trying to copy the mac interface so Windows 7 is fairly intuitive. I work as tech support on a college campus and we have a lot less computers coming in with Windows 7 even though almost the entire Freshman class came in with new computers running 7.
