Linux seems to be a pretty popular OS amongst the die-hard guys. I think some people think that just because they have never heard of it or it's not as mainstream means that it's no good, which isn't the case.

Those live CDs are amazing to have I recommend that everyone burns one to a CD. IMHO, using them are one of the easiest and most efficient ways to diagnose and fix computer problems. If windows fails to boot, you can just pop in the live CD, and access all of your files and utilize whatever program may be necessary to fix the problem.

I refuse to own a Window run computer.. Have enough issue with it now and then at work.

We proudly own a Mac lap top, and desk PC uses Linux. Linux works very well, haven't had any issues with crashing on the Mac or Linux.

A co-worker told me that 7 can be set up to look like Mac's desk top.. Ugh.. Good try Windows.. I don't think a Mac user is going to use windows when you do the "wanna be"

Yeah even though I just barely started using it, the more I use it the more I like it.

The $30 price expires in January I believe, so if you see an upgrade in your future make sure to buy it before then even if you aren't going to use it right away. Retails for $130 so $30 is quite the savings.

That is only to upgrade from Vista though correct?? I am still running XP on both desktop and netbook. Had Vista on a laptop that I sold, but it didn't have enough RAM to run Vista properly.

Negative. I just upgraded from XP to Windows 7. Actually, I didn't even "upgrade" I did a clean/fresh install with the upgrade.

I wouldn't do an "upgrade" either. Clean installs for me.

Clean installs are always the best way to go. Haven't tried windows 7 due to my Mac, but I have played with it and it is not that bad.

Default Windows 7 installs great!

I have many computers, three of which run in our house. Two that I built and a HP laptop. My computer runs XP, Vista Premium 64 bit, Windows 7 premium 64 bit, Linux Mint 6, Linux mint 7. I choose which to boot at startup, depending what I need to do. If you are new to Linux use mint because it loads all the items to play DVD's, Music etc where other distros do not!

Windows 7 was the easiest install a windows version ever did. Both on my system and my wife's, she only had a RC (free) version of windows 7 but it upgraded it and accepted the Serial No. and did an automated activation! I thought I might have to install an operating system first but it worked fine. I was beta tester for windows 7 and it is an extremely tight system. Didn't have any problem with anything connected to system either. It found and installed ALL drivers correctly! If you want a new OS I recommend Windows 7!

My system has AMD 9550 Quad core processor, ATI HD 4870 graphics, 6 gigs of DDR2 memory (can use because of 64 bit system), 2-500 gig hard drives, 1-750 gig hard drive, 2- lightscribe optical drives (all drives except one optical are SATA).

I have been using Windows 7 since January. works well.

I have it on several workstations at work running 64 bit, it runs exceptionally well.

Default Re: Windows 7

After an over 5 year period of avoiding Microsuck...I bought a new PC and HD videocamera. The Gateway had Microsuck 7 in it whether I wanted it or not.,..I asked for no OS but they wouldn't go for it. I think the biggest improvement may be the Media Center..great for watching TV with on screen TV guiding to help you,etc...easy recording too amongst other things. But after close to 4 mths I have seen much of what sucks with Microsuck..not the least is $$$$.
SUSE and openSUSE are 2 Linux distributions which make the switch easy for a Microsuck user,..unlike some of the others. If you are up to it go for a dual-boot system..keep Microsuck in one and start using Linux in the other. In time you will see that the Linux system is more user friendly without scans of your HD, the need for an Anti-Virus program, etc. happening.
