just got the red ring ... sh*************t , no warranty or anything and it just had to happen right before forza 3 comes out.

Find someone who does the repair work on Craigslist. There should be quite a few geeks in VA. Typically $30-50 depending. I had one I bought and it tits'd on me fixed once twice three times by Microsoft. Then finally had a guy who lives in a rental trailor fix it and mod it worked for the past 2 years. (I sold to a friend he still has it.) I got too pissed and bought a PS3 Which the video went out in. I now have 2 original 60GB PS3's that play all games. Of course one is now a 160GB and the other is a 250GB.

hold on for a sec, what is the manufacture date on the xbox? microsoft will warranty 3 years after manufacture date for the red ring of death

Yea it's still covered as long as you are the original buyer and you have the receipt.
Well there's ways around that too.

I have the warranty through Best Buy. It worked out well because when mine died and I returned it, the price had dropped by $100, so I got it replaced, an extra hard drive, another warranty, and money back.

well I've been looking all over the internet and there are plenty of what seem like legit ways and programs you can get to fix it. luckily mine is still under warranty so I just have to apply online to get it fixed and send it in, I'm not even sure that i will have to pay for shipping. Just a lot of waiting.

So don't sweat it too much those programs are only about 30-50 bucks. If they work, but I trust them.

Just do the Internet repair through Microsoft. You fill out the info and they send you a special box for it with a prepaid label. It'll take about a week to get the box and usually no maore than 2 weeks to get it back.

I would repair it myself just buy the new part but I only play mine for an hour at a time at most and I don't remember the last time I turned it on must have been atleast 2 months ago. only game I have is DiRT2 lol
