Default Ipod Question

Hey guys, I am going to come off as stupid since I am 22 and never owned or used an Ipod before. I have owned my current MP3 for over 6 years now and it finaly decided to conk out on me. I want to buy either a MP3 or Ipod that:

Must be able to plug in the cigarette lighter
at least 4 GB
Reliable=No easily broken screens, doesnt always freeze, etc.

Now most of these requirements point to an Ipod since most Mp3s dont offer the cigarette lighter plug in.

My real question is this. Can I just transfer songs from my CDS and my MP3 without using Itunes or buying songs? I just wish to used the songs I already have without using I tunes. I need an IPOD/MP3 for when I work out and for long road trips.

Thanks.

Get one with micro USB. Then buy a two dollar car charger. I know when I bought a case for my wifes cellphone they threw a new one in for free. Worked out great because I stream pandora from my android.

Yup.

An ipod will cost ya 130$+ for a nano while something like this (just an example), will cost considerably less.

It's worth it to shop around.

As stated previously, any thing that can charge through a USB port would be good - the converters for 12v to USB are super cheap.

I'm sure there are some programs that will let you load info onto an iPod without going through iTunes, but I haven't looked. Any music that you load onto your hard drive should transfer over to iTunes and the iPod whether you got it legally or not. You aren't stuck with iTunes as your only way to get music.

I've got an Iphone and the Belkin IPod mount is a great charger/mount that puts it right beside the steering wheel for easy control. You could even watch a movie with it sitting there

For me with an Iphone it works perfectly for driving listening to tunes, GPS nav with voice that drops the music for directions and music will drop down for phone calls and txt and puts call sound over truck speakers.

The only reason i have an ipod is because its a shuffle, and you can hack those to remove anything apple lol.

As far as the iphone, i'd go android phone instead, personal choice of course.

Hey guys I followed your advice and bought a sony MP3 8G player, my issues is this, I am looknig for suggestion on where to install this Mp3 player when I take it on road trip. For the time being i have it beside me on my bench seat, but it doesnt really work because its hard to drive and change songs on the Mp3, especially at night since the buttons don't light up. My brother had velcroed his to the dash, but I don't want an unsightly velcro strip showing. and I would like to have installed where I can still remove it and use it for when I go the to the gym, but I want to be able to access at hands reach (tried the cupholders and thats to far away). Whats a cheap fix for this. What did you guys fab for this issue?

Sony and Apple are in the same boat.

They have the same mindset when it comes to business ethics.
